A salary cap means everyone has to abide by the same spend FFP is very different & if they really wanted it to be fair it would be an obvious choice for UEFA.
The moment you try to regulate items on the P&L, you are interfering with a club's business model, tho' a salary cap may be the least damaging.
Ultimately, only the balance sheet should be regulated as that protects clubs from overwhelming debt.

A salary cap is not "fair" since wages would have to be related to the ability of a club to pay rather than a footballer's "worth". The result is that wages have to be within the reach of the poorest and you get a levelling down. The better players then clear off to other leagues if that's possible, others go on strike .... and fans stop going to watch the club they used to support for evermore! If their club isn't one of the chosen few allowed to find ways of paying players through the back door.

In all this I really resent the influence of Bayern Munich, an absolute **** of a club whose vague 'history' is based on being bailed out financially on at least 2 x occasions. Whether they paid off the ref against Leeds in the 75 European Cup Final is of course just a matter of opinion...… add convicted fraudster and all round dodgy mouthpiece Uli Hoeness and it just adds insult to injury. I hope we can turn it around against these fuckers more than anyone

Don't forget convicted luxury watch smuggler Rummenigge.

In any event, "salary" is only a part of a player's earnings. How would the rules control image rights ? A player's worth in that respect is governed by the amount of publicity generated for him as an individual and by mutual association. So an average midfielder such as Pogba becomes "world class" simply by his association with united. United benefit from the appearance of signing "world class" players.

In my view, this is one of the more pernicious aspects of the media being merely advertising platforms for certain clubs.

Congratulations on a very concise summary of one nest of European royalty.

UEFA is aiming at the wrong target, tackling the wrong problem, poking its nose into matters which it simply isn't capable of handling and g is generally ******* things up royally. This FFP nonsense would, as we've all pointed out many times, be totally unnecessary if leagues actually applied a real, serious and consistent "fit and proper persons test" tp club ownership; gone would be the leveraged buy out merchants, the dodgy oligarchs who can't tell you where and how they got their money, the American sports corporations which see sport as some Trump like trade war and all the other riff raff who actually don't have any money and don't have any ideas either. Then we'd see Sheikh Mansour as what he is: a financially prudent (and yes very wealthy) owner with a concern for the history, traditions and future of not only his club but also its city. I know very few are in the same league as Sheikh Mansour but their are some very good owners in football. Juast as one example I would cite Steve Gibson at Middlesboro.
