I think we're getting in a lather about nothing. Our enemies in UEFA, the PL etc etc are living in the past and have been since 2008. Martin Samuel is right when he says that Sheikh Mansour was dismissed as not a serious threat in 2008, but not dismissed as a mad hatter, but just another Abramovitch. And the establishment had learned to live with Abramovitch. But the only way the Sheikh could succeed was by pumping money into the club to buy a trophy. And the answer was simple - don't allow it by new rules that would allow all the revenue streams the establishment had developed and none of the owner investment that the Sheikh and City would surely have to rely on. By 2014 that theory had been blown sky high as City were doing rather well in the trophy chase and it was the establishment which were struggling. Even UEFA's sanctions were regarded as merely a "pinch" because City were not only better than the establishment on the pitch, they were vastly superior off it. The best organised club, from 2016 the best manager and coaching staff and the second highest revenue in the PL all from UEFA approved sources. And so back to the past and digging up some alleged violations from five years ago. The reality is that any sanction UEFA can impose which the courts are likely to accept and permit (and this depends on us having done anything which the law does not allow) is unlikely to have anything but a derisory impact on the rise of our club. City simply do things better than the establishment and wishing things were as they were ten years ago will not stop us.

If uefa want ffp to promote financial stability in football, then I defy them to show a better example of that than City.

This thread is very similar to last time we were accused of failing FFP, ever man and his dog was saying the club would take UEFA to the cleaners. What happened we accepted the charge and took our punishment. This time people say it is different, how I don't know, would we really take it all the way to court to save the reputation of the the club, I doubt it. The last time we accepted the punishment the reputation of the club was damaged for all time, we will always be know as the cheats the ones who were caught and punished for failing FFP. I really hope this time is different and we have a water tight case because if not we may have to suck it up again.

We didn’t just “suck it up” last time. We negotiated hard behind the scenes and accepted a settlement which was more for show and had little impact on the club.

The current posturing may even be more of the same.

We took a pinch last time, it sounds like they want us to take even harsher punishment for the the same period. Also you can't use one reference point as "the norm", this is only the second time we've been in this position and it could go entirely differently for all we know.

Good grief.

Last time we took the pinch because fighting it could have impacted the competition itself as the outcome of an appeal may have been a ban and a requirement for another club to take our place. Effectively it was £16m and that should have been the end of it. In retrospect, considering all the shit we’ve had since we should have fought it but it wouldn’t have made us very popular with other clubs in the competition. This time they’re trying to ban us anyway so why would we just accept that and we’re no longer the new boys so the rest of them can go fuck themselves if they have a problem.

I can actually see us leaving it alone if it's thrown out. We shouldn't though because even the club know the intent of this trial by propaganda, was organised and clear. If we can prove our case we should or we could end up regretting missing the opportunity to do that, if we are still dealing with the cheat label for years to come.

I think there has been a pretty big difference in the clubs rhetoric. To me, it seems as if we're sick of it and aren't prepared to take any more.

And of course we'll now know that taking our punishment is no guarantee of ending things then an there. Fool me once.

I'm sure we will fight this time, that being said I far from convinced we will win(that's not to say I think we should, I just don't have any faith in the process)

Our owner knew what the PL was like before he bought City and surely knew how it would react to his investment potential.
Beating the establishment at their own game has been mainly achieved on the football field and fully on the financial front so his Business Plan worked but I doubt he expected accolades from the media or the Der Spiegel saga to break.
If City was only a flagship venture for his Country then the media are destroying this effect. If it was mainly for finance reasons well he can afford to ignore the media and enjoy his investment.
I wonder which way he will turn?

Good grief.

That what say to myself every day

Little impact financially but the damage to the reputation of the club was immense. We are supposed to have a top PR team and top legal brains working for the club but it still seems anybody on radio, TV, online or in the press can say just about anything about the club and our owners with absolute impunity. When does the fight back start, silence one TV channel, radio station , or reporter but what are the club seen to do put out a strongly worded statement. All this shit about we don't know what goes on behind the scenes doesn't wash because if we don't know then nobody else does, which just continues to make it open season for anybody to drag the clubs name though the gutter. In a week when we have achieved a first ever domestic treble we have a reporter asking Pep if he is taking bungs, the very least the club should of done was to make it public knowledge that this prick would not be welcome at the Etihad again. Would anybody be surprised at Peps next press conference if Harris was there asking the same question again, I know I wouldn't. I have stopped buying newspapers, listening to certain radio stations, stay off most social media, even watch the matches with the commentary turned off, should it really be like this.

Think people are deluded if they think city are going to spunk millions trying to bring down FFP. Think we could take our case to CAS but certainly don’t see us taking it further. And let’a not forget CAS is independent from UEFA.

IF it gets as far as a one season ban then why would we take a 90m+ hit? Going down the legal route would be the cheaper option and tie UEFA up for years.
In the hacked memo's Khaldoon was prepared to go legal until Infantino offered a compromise that suited both parties.
