The problem with these inquiries is that the standard the authorities is held to is very high, and the standard the fans are held to very low.

When reports like this are written, a group of football supporters is expected to potentially contain a bad element, and behave little better than animals. The authorities are expected to anticipate this and deal with it. Therefore almost any failing will be presented as the fault of the police/UEFA/the authorities at the ground, and not the supporters.

There’s a real possibility that any official report will make the Liverpool fans seem like saints and the authorities incompetent. The dippers know this, of course, from their experience with the Hillsborough process. That probably explains why they were so keen to call for an official report.

An official report can’t just say - “the dippers turned up and acted like animals and we didn’t expect it”. That automatically invites the question “why the fuck not, you should know what they’re like and be ready for them?”.

This needs to happen to avoid both ill feeling and even sanctions.

Clearly tear gassing civilians isn't something you want to see, I do think they are a bit too free and easy with these kind of tactics in Europe and I think the french police will find it hard to justify when pushed.

But there were clearly more people trying to get in the Liverpool end than were legitimately supposed to. For the french to come out and say fake ticketing was on an industrial scale needs some backing up now, but you'd think they have the evidence. There's footage, social media posts and presumably they confiscated the tickets too.

And if they do show it was the case, then some very serious questions need to be asked her win the UK. Would the UK govt trust Liverpool fans again in such a scenario? Would they trust any fans? Was Klopp's quotes and the encouragement to go to Paris more than just bad advice?

Part of me thanks this will just be made to go away, money is involved and at stake for both sides if there's a fallout. But the French are really pushing this, and the UK / UEFA may have to visibility send the offending club and person's to the naughty step on some level.

Fake tickets on sale before, bragging about getting “blags” was enough for us to predict what would happen. The ground was full, the aisles were full & yet still outside the ground there was thousands refusing to leave. The French sports minister & police said there was thousands of fakes but a reporter from sky tells you what you want to hear so he’s the font of all knowledge.
