I literally spent 20 minutes earlier trying to figure out what exactly is the benefit of winning the Nations League.

Based on my research, it amounts to a second chance for the winner if they don’t qualify for the Euros outright… which means it is unlikely to mean anything to any of the teams competing this week.

De Ligt is a great player, for me, and van Dijk is still hugely respected, but the absence of a rock in the middle of the park and a bit of quality to play alongside de Jong means that the collective talents are going to waste. The U21s drew 0-0 with Japan earlier and there just doesn‘t seem to be a rich crop coming through.

Agree with you on having a rock. I still feel De Ligt has some way to go but he is indeed a good player.

On the u21s, I feel like it also shows the level of high level coaching going on at City.

There are good players amongst them but maybe not elite level as I can infer from your post.

Quite more often than not, the right environment is important. Example being Doku. That is a lad with spades of talent but I feel he’s stagnated since playing first team football. Like ASM, I feel he’s another that needs a proper coach to bring the best out of him.
 
I understand Ake starting yesterday as he started much since his return from injury but Rodri?

Ah well. Have to accept the lads will still keep at it for little longer with these games.
