Since last season we've moved up 2 places whilst United have dropped 9 places, Arsenal have dropped to 10th whilst Chelsea remain 4th. We're not that far behind top 10 and if we pick up on this and carry on getting through the group stages as winners we continue to improve on our ranking.

All the more reason to make a decent showing in the CL this season. It should help improve our ranking, with the long term aim of getting into pot 1 for the CL group stage draws in the coming seasons, and (hopefully) easier groups.

Hardly important as long as the new seeding system remains in place.

Not important for seeding, no, but it is an indicator for how well we are performing in the CL despite only making it as far as knock-out stages.

As far as coefficient scoring we're none to dissimilar to that of United, Chelsea or Arsenal in the last 5 years, only 12/13 season were we diabolical.

It's not a bad sign considering these clubs have been in the CL a lot longer than us and have had vast experience as a team in this competition.

Ranking no longer gets you into pot 1. That is now for the champions of each domestic leagues.

We do need to do well though this season as 20 points drops off our ranking for next year.

The points are in for next season; it is the 2017-2018 season for which those points drop out.

City only just made it into Pot 2 this season so it is important to keep the ranking points up. Otherwise City could find themselves in a group with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid should they fail to win the PL.

Couldn't we still be overtaken by one of the teams below us? Winning the Europa League does seem to generate a lot of points.

I don't think the first bit is right. The points at the end of this season are the rankings for next year's draws.

However, the country ranking at the end of this season only defines the "top 8 league" champions (and thus the pot 1 seeds) for 2017-18.

Also, these points are taken from UEFA' site and I don't think they include the country coefficents for this season yet, and also aren't up-to-date for this week. City's pts excluding country coeff is 17 this year - 4 wins @ 2 pts each, 4 pts for entering the CL group, 5 pts for making the R16. Ninth best so far.

Either way, it's really too soon to be bothered about.

Only because there are lots of rounds to go, and every win gives 2 pts. 9 matches left for the finalists.
As I've just said, those are pre game 6 points. City, Arsenal< Chelsea have gained 7 pts by making the R16, for example.

Not that easy. We will get an additional 5 points for knockout qualification, which is not added at the moment.

Isn't winning the group a better indicator than a table of coefficients?

First bit was correct. Those five years quoted (including this year) determine our place in the coefficients for next year. The 20 points doesn't drop out until next year.

The table in the OP isn't upto date, as it doesn't include the bonus points for winning the group. According to Bert we are now 14th, with the scum 20th

2016 is here http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/trank2016.html

The 20.05 points from 11/12 points drop off next season, ie for 2017-18 cup, currently we are 15th http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/trank2017.html

I fancy us to replace them and more by that point. It's the season after when we drop those 10 points in 12/13 where we might be able to push on a bit but it's tricky to get up there with the very best

Rags looking at pot 3 next season if they don't do well in europa. That 2 they got last season will handicap them for years

Hardly important as long as the new seeding system remains in place.

It's important to be inside the top 10 or so, as that pretty much guarantees always being in pot 2 when we don't win the league, which obviously isn't going to happen every year.
