A mostly boring game that sparked to life in the last 10 minutes or so. I get that you might want to set up shop when ahead by 2 - but I think - not even in hindsight - that this was a big mistake. Spurs were creating the better chances by far and decided to just sit back in a low block and let PSG fire away.
Other takeaways:
I can't believe how awful Vitinha - usually one of PSG's best players - was. He misplaced so many passes and gave the ball away far more than usual. It was so bad that - and I got a chuckle out of this - when he took PSG's kickoff in the 2nd half - PSG normally put the ball out of bounds forcing their opponent to take a free throw deep within their own territory - Vitinha couldn't even do that, and instead put it over the end line for a goal kick.
Vitinha's corners were terrible too.
And when Vitinha got up to take PSG's first kick in the penalty shootout I just knew - based on how bad his day was going - that he'd miss.
I still think that Vitinha is world class - but wow! I've never seen such a good player have such a shit game.
Dembele continues to gain more and more respect from me. At some point late in the 2nd half, Dembele decided to take charge. He started to play more on the right wing to get crosses in - and he took over Vitinha's job on corners because Vitinha was having a very bad day. This is on field leadership, teamwork, and a will to win. Characteristics I thought the Dembele of 2 years or so ago incapable of.
