Great idea playing a game in Greece in August. This date last year the temperature reached 89 degrees and was still 80 degrees at midnight! Just the conditions for a game of football. Hope they sell water in the stadium better than Istanbul did!

I was surprised how limited the options where.

This would be one of the areas I'd avoid mate. I'm sure you'd be fine but as I've just said to another poster, why land in Longsight when you can stay in Alderley Edge for a similar price.

It's like a town of itself really, just watch yourself as a tourist especially heading north or west into the local housing developments in Piraeus. Not much there by way of English speakers and bars etc just working class factory and ship workers, a few knuckle draggers from experience. You'll be sound in the center of Piraeus and Pasalimani and Mikrolimano harbour areas.

As Manchester33 says, my general advice would be for our lads to stay in the Monastiraki, Thiseio, Plaka and Kolonaki areas in the center. This equates to an area of about 1.5 miles all of which the main sites and attractions are. You'll find good food and beers readily available here, and it's too expensive for undesirables to be staying or living there so a bit safer in the evenings. Direct Metro easily available to all these areas from the stadium in Piraeus, about a 20 minute journey.

Cheers, yes in centre, looks about half way between stadium and the front.Checked hotel reviews and all good re the area along with convenience.

Been to Athens before but was 30 odd years ago & now understand they have a big problem with ilegals and crime so will be on my guard.
