UEFA U-21 European Championship 2011

Why didn't Sturridge just face it out left to Sinclair on the edge of the box?
Terrible decision making.

Walker really surprised me; picked his opportunities well when getting forward, technically fantastic, and fuck me he's pacey.

Henderson was awful - tried a few long passes that were more Pinewood than Hollywood.

Smalling was my motm - saved our bacon quite a few times, and always that calm presence on the ball.

Was also impressed by Franky Fielding - only seen him once before; has a very mature head on his shoulders.

Still, the defending for the first goal was annoying.

there isnt a player on the english team I'd touch on this performance.

Just Walker and Smalling. Henderson was poor, and if Cleverley is the Scholes replacement, then I'm Mario Balotelli.

the world cup last year has really opened my eyes to english footballers. we are truly clueless. i've always tubthumped when it's come to international tournaments but over the last 12 months i've seen how far behind we are as a nation. the algeria match in the world cup was the ultimate. it's all guess work with even our brightest prospects. i honestly think that english footballers enjoy the noise made when they leather the ball.

i was at an under 11's tournament with my eldest lad yesterday and in the last match both teams needed a win to finish 3rd (they were already out). the team my lad played against were constantly told by their teacher to hit it long so that our lot couldn't score. he was genuinely delighted when one of their defenders caught the ball on the volley and sent it 3/4 of the way down the pitch.

this is what's wrong. trevor brooking talks a lot about st. george's park but nothing's changed in 30-40 years. our so-called golden generation are nearing the end of their careers and have achieved fuck all. meanwhile, spain and germany seem to have overhauled their entire national game within the last 10 years.

Trevor Brooking is part of the problem. The man is an utter buffoon. But he is part of an old boys club that worships the ground he walks on.

From watching England at senior and U21 level and just from when I was at school I can safely say this: High balls should get banned.

Imagine how different we would be if their was a national ban on trying to attack birds flying overhead each time we touch the ball.
