Why would the England manager pick a team based on who they play for? What relevance is that to him? We had a side in the opening game without a single united or Liverpool player in the 11... How do you explain that one? why isn't Rashford and Henderson playing? Do they not play for united anymore? And why would the bus driver want his new £80 million player starting when he's safer sitting it out on the bench?

I think the point is that Southgate, like so many previous England managers, is weak and allows himself to be influenced by the media and there has been a strong lobby for Sancho. Foden was unfairly criticised after the first two matches and that was driven by certain elements of the press. I am sure Southgate doesn't sit down and say I must play United players but he is weak none the less.
You mention Rashford,who has become a star on social media not on the pitch. His form has been pitiful this season and he should not even be in the squad yet he was brought off the bench to play.

I'm torn. As an England supporter I'm embarrassed by our Rag/Dipper type entitlement coming from the media/pundits but I want us to win.

Pretty much half of the BBC build-up has been about Zinchenko and Sterling and being very positive about both of them

I’ve got City mates who have seasoncards at City have been to numerous tournaments watching England and love it, got one City mate who is ‘England over City’, loads of City fans used to meet up in the same City pubs around Town and go to England games when England were at Old Trafford when Wembley was being rebuilt, know of City lads who go home and away with England (including friendlies) as well as City… everywhere in the country supports England apart from sad bitter United and Liverpool fans and, unfortunately, some City fans have adopted this Rag/Scouse trait over the last decade (never knew of it before then).
