Get in! He'd be the most likeable England manager since Sir Bobby.

FA Statement: Roy Hodgson
Sunday, 29 April, 2012

Approach made to WBA regarding England Manager's position.

West Bromwich Albion have today granted permission for The FA to speak with Roy Hodgson regarding the position of England Manager.

This follows an approach from FA Chairman David Bernstein to West Bromwich Albion Chairman Jeremy Peace.

David Bernstein said: "I'm grateful to Jeremy and all at West Bromwich Albion for their co-operation in allowing us to approach Roy, who I have since spoken with.

"Roy is the only manager we have approached and we remain on course to make an appointment within the timescale we set-out soon after Fabio Capello's departure.

"Further conversations will now take place with Roy and my Club England colleagues before any further announcements can be made."

I wouldn't wish it upon him - he'll be crucified by the media at the first sign of things going wrong, purely on the grounds that he isn't Harry Redknapp.

Interesting though that they haven't approached Redknapp; even the FA have sussed him!

Like all vacant roles, Hodgson won't be the only person approached. There's no way that he's the only Manager they've looked at. I'm pleased with it, though. Great Manager.

I have sensed this in the air for a few weeks. This would be a fantastic appointment. In spite of him being a bit too matey with Ferguson, I can bring myself to forgive him for that, as he otherwise seems a thoroughly decent man.

He would get much more out of the under performing clowns that play for our national side than Redknapp too.

I would be made up he was to get this job and it would mean that my complete indifference to the England team may relent a little this summer.

Not according to the FA

If you read Autobiographies from Managers then you'll learn all sorts of stuff about who was approached for what job. Not everything is announced.

Levy, the Spurs board and their fans will be devastated at this development. They want shut of 'arry but in typical Spurs fashion they wanted a huge wedge of compo from the FA for taking a manager they don't want off their hands. Tough titties Spurs, if you want him gone you can pay him off yourself.
