Uncut magazine - Top 500 albums of the 80's

I was disappointed to see compilation albums included - including Hatful Of Hollow.
Should have been studio albums only.

Couldn't believe Technique was above Power, Corruption & Lies
You never usually get compilations on these type of lists. But if you are including Substance, for me it's the best album/compilation/collection of music from that decade. Just look at the tracklist, it's outstanding.
I am absolutely gobsmacked at how someone can have listened to Closer and Substance, then say Closer is better. Take off Atrocity Exhibition, Isolation and Decades, then the rest of it is shite.

Should spark a decent discussion

What utter bullshit that top 10 is. Not gonna bother looking at the rest. Elitist nonsense from tastemaker music writers I’m gonna guess. The cognoscenti.

I’d have about 4 of those in my Top 10 at most.

Just one example, to choose Spirit of Eden over Colour of Spring.

To not include in the top 10 the Stone Roses album, nor any of
(here goes): Welcome To The Pleasuredome, Infected,
Soul Mining, New Gold Dream, This Is The Sea, 90125, Quadrastate, Bummed, Floodland, Back In Black, Master of Puppets, It Takes A Nation of Millions, Thriller, The Final Cut, Welcome To The Jungle, The Lexicon of Love, Technique, Let’s Dance is just perverse

Do we know how this list was compiled?
It can't be based on sales or popularity because, and i'm not a fan, but Thriller at only No. 27 with ABC above it...please!

Also, as a Bunnymen fan growing up, to me, there is no way that Ocean Rain should be above Heaven Up Here or Crocodiles.

Never in a million years in Closer by Joy Division better than Substance by New Order. Substance is easily the best collection of songs that either New Order or Joy Division (or any of the offshoots) have ever put together.

The Stone Roses should be in the top 10. An even bigger disgrace is Upstairs at Erics by Yazoo being 483. Not only has it got a clutch of absolute classic pop songs on it. But is has been far more influential than most of the albums on that list.

Impossible to argue with a single word of that.

These lists make me laugh, I tried and gave up ploughing through the supposedly 100 greatest albums of all time. By the time I got up to around number 50 I had listened to so much dull album fillers I lost the will to carry on.

Substance and stop making sense are the absolute best compilation/reworking songs albums of all time in my opinion.
