Undercover in the Police documentary

what is it you do for a living so I can slag off your profession without any real knowledge whatsoever?

Chef, go ahead and knock yourself out, I won't read it as the opinions of a pig mean nothing to me.

And no I've never rang you for help in my life and I've had a gun held to my head and my house burgled before so fuck off

My brother, sister and brother in.law we're all bobbies
My brother in.law policed the miner's strike in Yorkshire and all GMP were told not to mix with any Met police as they were scum

I was on the P&O seaman's strike in Dover in 1988. Aside from Kent police we had other forces policing the picket line. The worst of those were the Met police. They went out of their way to provoke trouble and belittle the strikers on the picket line.
My favourite memory was the first day they turned up. Their inspector was walking up and down the picket line giving it the big one. Telling his officers to take no crap from this lot ( Us) and generally addressing ourselves as if we were shit under his shoe. He was an utter ****. He had his flat cap on as he strutted up and down. Suddenly out of nowhere a seagull dropped a shit right into the middle of his cap, splattering it all over him, to a huge cheer from the picket line. Even his own men laughed. Absolutely beautiful.

That's one bad meal you cooked em :-)

Haha it was more wrong place wrong time stupid childhood stuff, my mate went to meet some kid for a fight and I went along with him so he wasn't on his own and when we got there this kids older brother jumped out of a bush waving something. I could see him squeezing the trigger before he got to me and nothing was happening so I knew it was a starter pistol or a rep or something. It hurt when he whacked me with it though! I got a bit of a kicking but nothing too serious. My friend was lucky he was quicker than me as they would have really hurt him.

Not condoning it but a job where you see

Abused children
Abused animals
Abused elderly
Murder
Suicide
Serious mental illness
Horrific accidents
Horrific violence and the consequences
Unbelievably evil people

Is going to require very thick skinned people who use gallows humour that occasionally goes too far.
If the police service isn't good enough it's partly down to us a society I'd suggest
Yep, they have to deal with the absolute dregs of society. I would prefer them to have a bit of an edge. Something to give the criminal world pause for thought.

Doesn’t make a story then

I think it makes a story to make the force better by removing unfit officers, gone are the days when the social media judge and jury can make any sense of it all.

The last thing anyone wants is to throw it open to the court of public opinion which means the sum total of fuck all now.

It all reminds me very much of this interchange.

All the police I know are a combination of idiots, bigots, chancers, lazy fuckers, towel flickers, or arrogant bullies.

And these are some people I am related to or have grown up closely with.

But, that is also a cross-section of people at a lot of places I have ever worked at. It's the human condition being tasked to uphold laws that don't come easy to most of us.

From my experience unfit officers are usually rooted out.

I’ve alluded to it elsewhere plenty of times-the service has been broken by the Tories and in their haste to push through op uplift it is without doubt that standards were dropped-in particular vetting was often not done-but police reflect the society in which we police-police are us.

That said I wouldn’t advise anybody I know to join nowadays-it ain’t worth the grief.

The Mets problem is these stories pop up quite often. I also have a feeling the vetting procedure isn't as stringent anymore.
I’d agree with the last point-I’d also say it’s a huge organisation -in my force I knew pretty much everybody

Strange that the police are at the centre of a lot of injustice in this country. From hillsboro to miners strikes, from phone hacking to raping activists.

Even more strange is that there are people in this country who would quuite happily hand over all of their identity, photo, dna to these people when they are capable of the shit they do.

Average coppers, lovely, never met a bad one (Maybe a couple when I was younger), but the top echelons treat the public like shit.

I have up after II, wasn't there about 10 of the fuckers.

I gave up after II, wasn't there about 10 of the fuckers
1st one was ok.
Some good characters in it, like Mahoney,Hightower and Commandant Lassard etc.
But the rest of the series was absolute dross, not even worth watching at all.

Now I could tell you many stories about those that were at the top…

I would also counter with Harold shipman, Lucy Letby, Beverly Allit….public facing jobs which carry lots of stress and get things wrong.
