United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Regardless of performance, the biggest concern for me is where the goals are going to come from.

From today's starting XI we only had Marmoush who had scored in the PL since mid January

That's an absolutely frightening statistics, especially when Grealish and McAtee are the only other players to contribute during the same period

We've no idea how next season will pan out.

Agree we were running on fumes last season, but we won the title so if that's a shit season for you then I think we have different expectations.

Massive (pardon the use of that word) difference between a shit season and playing shit football. I can take never winning the league again, done it now and never thought I'd see it, what I do want is some semblence of entertainment and this dire shit we are being served up week in week out isn't entertaining imo.

Tend to agree, and he's looked very good at Athletico.

Marmoush isn't a central striker, he's found form at 25 in a two, then he moves to us and he's not really got an obvious position.

I mean, he's the least of our worries I suppose.
Agreed

I think if Haaland is playing (as he will most games when fit) then Marmoush either starts wide left or he is on the bench. He aint a creative player from central positions but he could be from wider on the left....

If Haaland is fit Marmoush may have to adpat where he plays....he certainly aitn a number 9 in our system

Reading this thread you’d think we got hammered.

How could we get hammered, giving that we were facing possibly the worst United team since the Docherty years? Nobody hammered anybody. I think that's the point people are making, generally. There were no hammers to do any hammering. Both teams were armed with feather dusters.

Lack of quality and any urgency from either side.

Marmoush had two decent efforts. The build up was far too slow and ponderous. It was a difficult watch. Both teams could have played until midnight and still not scored.

Reading elements of this thread when did we become so raggish and entitled. Pep is suddenly a Steve McLaren level coach… FFS. I think Pep has made mistakes but he’s earned the right to oversee a rebuild and we are lucky to have him. We need to keep things in perspective and show some LOYALTY.
It's not entitlement imho.
I don't want Pep gone - but, for whatever reason, since October he's gone missing.
The guy used to be ruthless, what we seem to be seeing currently is based purely on sentiment. Today's line-up was criminal, and lacked awareness of the fact the team we were playing is utter toss these days. We never looked like going for the jugular

The current Alvarez is better than the current Marmoush
The current Alvarez is better than most players on our team
I can't think of any of our current squad that is better than him at the moment
I think Julian is a great player who never stops running like Tevez before him. But for me everything I've seen of Marmouch both before he came and now tells me he's a more natural footballer than either of them. In fact he's a better all round footballer than Erling. But Haaland is a freak when it comes to scoring.

Just been on you tube and found a rag after match video
Webby and O'Neil?
There's 2 of them
1 old guy and 1 younger
The old 1 said its the worst City side
He's seen in 15 years
Talk about Red Selective Memory.
That old fart isn't capable of remembering the 6-3 or all the other batterings handed out to them
They really are as a collective
Thick as pigshit
He’s right…

I don't think the problem is the players as such - we know most of them are good players. However, the midfield have no legs at all. Bernardo, Kovacic, KdB and Gundogan - I can't think of a slower midfield in any other team in the PL, or even in any top European league.

Surely the most obvious thing is that you simply cannot play all these players unless you surround them with runners and pace. We don't do that either. The drop off with Foden is something else. He's gone from being one of the best in the world to frankly a Championship level player and we all know he's far better than what he's doing. There's just something that is rotten across the whole squad - and I think it's an order. I cannot honestly think of any player who's played at anywhere near the level they can do this season.

We used to press hard but now we don't. We don't run and towards the end of the game KdB didn't even try to win the ball back. If he's now that unfit he can't do it, why is he playing in these games with players who are just as slow and unfit? Only Pep can answer that one. To my mind, the team is under an order to save energy at any cost.

I am honestly not sure on the rules about squads and the like but honestly, if you are a right back at City and Nunes is picked ahead of you, find another club as he is poor at best. If Gundogan is better than you in midfield, move on as you're not good enough.

So, to answer your question I don't think it's just about picking different players, it's a tactical and attitude thing. There's absolutely no way that so many of these players can go from world class to this standard in less than a year.
Its embarrassing after what everyone has seen all season, that we started with that midfield. Im with 4 blues on holiday and we all said WTAF when we saw that team. We all knew what was coming, how can Pep not know…??
