United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

If Rico starts in the bigger games or PL we seem to loose. It seems to effect everyone else in their own game and we never start.

I would like to see the stats on the games Rico has started and in and the defeats he's been involved in but I don't know where I can find this info

Weneed to forget this and quickly.

Pep 2/10 for his starting selection that gifted them the game. You could see it straight away.
Donna 9/10 if not for him it would have been a clusterfuck
Lewis 3/10 summed up with every throw in he took leading to them creating chances and positionally all over the shop whilst adding nothing going forward.
Ake 2/10 In the team for his experience but he was by far the biggest issue defensively,
Khush & Max 5/10 did ok with zero defensive support from the fullbacks

Rodders 6/10 tried his best but was left alone in the midfield battle
Bernie 4/10 didn't see him on the pitch really
Foden 3/10 this was the big moment for him to say I should be the starting number 10 and he was awful

Doku 4/10 they doubled up on him but sadly the space that created was not used as we reverted to back and sideways.
Erling - 3/10 lost every duel and looked like Corradi or Santa Cruz in their worst moments. What has happened to him dominating a back four.
Semenyo 4/10 starved of the ball in the first half and then was rushing his passes and having no impact

Subs - a collective 5/10 the game was already gone as we allowed them to dominate tackles, possession and get the crowd on their side.

Overall the woeful start cost us in my opinion. We have the players but the set up and system today was all wrong and can you imagine if we had gone for it from the off and they went behind - how their crowd would have been given what has happened to them in recent weeks...SO in summary a bad day at the office for Pep - he is so stubborn with his selections and today that stubbornness came home to roost.

Onwards without ever seeing Ake or Rico in the back four again and Phil to the bench until he regains some form!

That was awful.

The most unforgivable part is they wanted it way more than us. I can accept that some games you just don't play well but I can't accept the opposition playing with far more desire, especially local rivals.

Still quite a way off being a truly top side again.

Haaland has to be the biggest fraud in football. Scores goals against dogshit teams then hides when he needs to perform. Dude can’t even make a pass to save himself. Superior version of Gyökeres.

Been saying this for ages. He's the ULTIMATE stat padder. Was completely pocketed by Maguire today. Harry fucking Maguire!

Proper questionable performance. Getting dicked by United when we’re meant to be challenging for the title isn’t good enough. Recent form in the league is so poor.

One thing to keep in mind though is there is some horrible rumours going around about Nunes health. I hope it isn’t true, but it may have had an effect on the performance.

We’ve become so one dimensional it’s scary. That was shambolic today. If not for the keeper and a couple of tight offsides that’s 5-0.

Embarrassing and ends any hope of an unlikely title challenge. Players deserve calling out, but Pep really needs calling out. For the past year or 2 it seems he’s got no plan B. He’s earned the right to have more than a bit of slack but he really needs to sort this. Soon.

Set up in a back 5, defend deep, do your job to a semi competent level and counter you’ll get at least a point against this current City setup. Depressing.

Got to suck it up. We didn't deserve anything apart from Diallo being sent off.

Context.
Rags had a week off (regularly)
Youngest back four I've seen
No Dias Josko Gonzales (Guehi) Nunes
That said, Pep may have been trying to juggle options going forward. It can be the ony reason for continuing with Rico for so long, in a A game.

I get buying Semenyo and Guehi — particularly because of the need for home grown players — but the need in midfield is so, so big.

Even if Reinjders had adjusted more quickly and was giving us something more than he is, we are so weak and slow in the midfield, and we just get overwhelmed by physicality. The guys who can bring that to the table and playing RB and LB and neither may be ready for prime time in the MF anyway.

Pre-ACL Rodri papered over that giant crack in the wall at the end of the last title season. But it’s been there for a while. And it’s still there.

Awful from City today, all round apart from keeper. Rags more effective in their game-plan. City missing key players but set-up still wrong for the game. Stupid goals conceded.

Rags should have been down to 10 men early in game…

Not interested in loads of recriminations.

Some of our players are very tired, some are very young or still new to the team and Derbies can produce results that go against form. Hope Rags are that organised and aggressive next week at Emirates but will probably shit the bed.

Pep plays how Pep plays and players have to execute plan; they didn’t and made costly errors on their goals.

Hate losing to the Rags but far more bothered about giving Arsenal a huge advantage.
We are not winning the league its all about making the top 4 end of the season

Reminded me of the game v Spurs at the start of the season.

We looked unfit and unwilling/unable to be physical, naive as well.

Felt unprepared - did they not suspect the rags would be up for it, new manager, tons of criticism recently - obvious they would be out to do us and close the space.

Fucking naive, gutless.

I get that the back for was make shift to say the least, but the rest of the performance was equally as worrying. The litmus test is Rodri, you know if he played as poor as he did today the team have issues
