United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

rewatched the highlights, wow this was worse than I realized. literally could have been 6-7 goals from them if they are lucky with the shots/post/tight offsides.

Carrick of all doing this to Pep is mindblowing. with the help of master tacticians like Jonny fucking Evans and Woodgate.
It's one match. We've played 6 in 16 days. This was their cup final and they (and the media) are behaving as if that's what they have just won, a major cup final. Forget it and move on.

Fair summary. Our tactics were not working and we changed ...nothing. Could we not have just sat back in numbers for a bit and let Haaland, Doku and Semenyo have some space to run into for a change?

City had 68.2 possession in a match United dominated!
Possession means nothing if it's deep in your own half or just passing around on the edge of the opponent's box.
Pep likes possession, but it's only ten seasons since Leicester won the PL with either the 19th or 20th best possession statistics.

Can't handle losing derbies me, thinking of something constructive to say. I just want them all in stocks for the weeks so we can chuck rotten eggs at them. Turning up for a derby and putting in that performance. Fucking hell.

I don't think there's anything positive to really take from it, unless we say Donnarumma, and maybe Khusanov did okay ..... but even their performances seem lost when a team, supposedly chasing the title, loses a game 2-0 ... which in truth, could have been five or six !

We rarely created anything, or threatened their goal, so it's just best forgotten about, and moved on from !

It could quite easily have been 6-0, that's the reality, all three offsides were close and we were cut open with ease. We all knew that defence was piss weak so our midfield and attack were going to have to perform, and boy did they stink the swamp out. Doku was like bambi on ice that first 20 minutes, couldn't control the ball kept taking it out of play and certainly couldn't beat his man, he seemingly was our plan A to make something happen. Semenyo was pretty much invisible, Foden the same, Erling sulking his way through the game, Bernardo showing his age and Rodri still finding his way back. Abysmal effort all round, the most annoyed I've been after a derby for many a year

It was 2-0 although I accept it felt a lot worse…..

We need to just forget this game now, it's gone, and concentrate on winning against Bodo and Wolves, and NOT losing any more matches !

Analysing it now as fans isn't gonna help, unless the players and manager themselves are doing the anylysing , and learning from it .... we need to move on and make sure sure we compete and defend much better in the remaining games.

Yep I was over it right after the game we were battered and the context of the game overall is main reason..

It was 2-0, still shite though.

Was so bad by the end i wasn’t particularly pissed off in the ground more just stunned by how bad we were. Kept thinking as it went on we’ll improve but if anything we got worse. Don’t think there was a much any manager could do when so many were so bad on the day.

They obviously hated Amorim and got a boost from Carrick stepping up, but Pep was utter shite yesterday another of those games where he gets it horribly wrong

Last time I looked, a coach was allowed to change things around during the game?

Such as ditch such a high suicide line when it became obvious that it was just a big welcome mat. That decision should have taken 5 minutes.

Can't blame that tactic on either injuries or fatigue - in fact, they just make it even more unfathomable.
It was 0-0 when we made the changes.

A lot of you are over-thinking it as usual so I say again, we have an injury hit squad, we've played 6 in 16 days, all of which were tough matches bar the Exeter one and it's obvious (or should be) that were going to be faded, we're going to start to feel the pressure of the schedule. If this has been a level playing field i could understand it but it wasn't, yet until yesterday we still managed to keep the unbeaten run going.

They're behaving like this was their cup final, be effectively it was, but as usual after any bad result most in here are behaving like it was our cup final too. It's one match, show them it didn't matter, they're still light years behind us and their season is all but over, this is all they have left to play for. Get over it and move on.

Yep, possession means nothing at all if you don't make it count by scoring goals ....

Games like that I get over way more that the 1-2 at ours the scumbags nicked! Anyone with anything about them after seeing our backline and the first half saw where the game was heading!

It was all very odd why went on. They did nothing well, less Donnarumma and Kusanov

It doesn’t feel any better in the come light of day, I can’t think of any semi-positive

There needs to be consequences. Players need dropping after that, they cant carry on like it never happened. It was appalling

The consequences are that they lost another 2 points that would've taken them closer to Arsenal. There's little point in being hysterical or overreacting (I'm talking about Pep and the coaching staff). The important thing is to understand why it happened and then deal with those reasons.

For example, I felt like Max/Ake on the left got bullied in the first ten minutes of the game and it completely shook the entire team's confidence and gave United's crowd something to get behind. Does that mean that Max should get 'dropped'? Doesn't matter because he's a kid who is going to be replaced by Guehi anyway. Should Ake get dropped? Well, I would assume the only reason he played was so that Max had an experienced defender next to him rather than NOR. This isn't an excuse for the entire performance btw, just an observation about one of the many things that will have affected the way they played.

We didn't deal with a totally predictable United team, with a set-up that any of us could have predicted. They reverted to type - ditching everything "Amorim" - and knew that if they bided their time, they'd get their breakaway chances, and we wouldn't be able to live with the pace.

That could have been negated by setting up like we did at Arsenal this season, where we sat much deeper than usual.

We used to chant "It should have been 10....." Yesterday, but for The Don and some very marginal offsides, it could have been 10 for them!

Over to you, Mr Guehi, to stabilise the defence and hopefully turn the season around for us. Anyway, thank God we don't have to play the scum again this season.

Re Max, I think the opposite, I don’t think he should be dropped
I think he should play at the earliest opportunity to show we have faith in him. He was top a Newcastle and a bit of a shaky game shouldn’t mean he’s turfed out

I do something with Haaland, Doku and Foden though. Whether it’s dropping them, giving them a bollocking, I don’t know. But performances like that should be unacceptable - maybe I’m just lashing out and what I suggest isn’t practical but that sorry excuse for a performance really pissed me off. I’ve woken up more annoyed than I was when I went to bed

Probably the most sensible post of the weekend. This was their cup final but we're behaving like it was ours too.

They haven't played 6 in 16 days, been hit with injuries, and had the almost inevitable boost of a change of manager which more often than not seems to make a difference.

If we're saying it meant more to them then that's because over the course of the season it did - it's all they have. It's done, we put 3 past them at ours so if you want to talk about bragging rights...let them have their day in the sun.

Onwards an upwards, WE have a lot more to play for.

What was going on with corners? Why did Doku take the first corner - he is very low down on the list of potential corner takers in my view. He doesn’t have the technique, as was demonstrated

And how much have we won since then?

Fair Do’s to those watching the highlights no thanks!

Been posting about this for 18 months! The pressing isn’t working teams are far better at playing through it and when over committing the press, they play a long ball wide and we under pressure straight away! You see the km foden Haaland silva few others have done for little benefit it will effect the players and why they look knackered! Maybe when our squad is bulked out more with players pep trust to rest that may change! At moment any club who defend well have fast players will cause us problems..
