United (A) | Post Match Thread

Don't agree. United are a good side and we were on their turf. They have a right to make things tricky for us and they did, but we rode it out and made good changes to get on top. We were a bit slow in the first half but were much the better team for 30 mins of the second half and we were well on for a good smash and grab. But then, as I said, VAR decided to forget the offside rule and the game turned on a dime. It's a rare day that City lose and I'm not pointing fingers at some deficiency in the set-up, or a lack of overall control, but we have been properly screwed over by disgraceful officiating.
Agree on the officiating, but not on the performance. In that first half we just kept passing the ball straight to united players and giving them opportunities to break. Cancelo again was awful for it, Kev again so sloppy. It’s not just a one off, this has been brewing since well before the World Cup.

City played well, very bad referee though. I don't remember any VAR replays for controversial decisions in this game.

But if playing like today for the remained season I think City still have chance to win PM.
Played well for about 20 minutes and created one great chance in 90

That linesman stuck his flag immediately when we were attacking first half, if he did his job the goal wouldn't have stood, but ffs for var to give that is unbelievable

Also Akanji just said he played Rashford offside, so from that point onwards when Rashford moved towards the ball Rashford was interfering with the play. Akanji was disadvantaged because of playing him offside.
He makes no attempt to play the ball (we are quoting the same thing BTW).

Why cant the defenders make a tackle...he doesnt block them

Ederson is not impeded....Rashford does not stop Ederson moving towards the ball (which is what it says)

Yes I agree as Ive said numours times....Rashford affected the decision making of Akanji and Walker.....but he did nothing to physically stop them playing the ball and thats what the law implies.....
Eh? Interfering with play - he is making a dummy run, that is involvement in the game and interfering. Doesn’t have to be physical

One of the very terrible decisions this season is playing Bernardo on the right whilst having KDB and Gundo in the middle. It’s too easy to cut us open with 1 or 2 passes when we pay like that. It’s a no-no against a very capable counterattacking team. I don’t know how you can’t see this. It’s not like Gundo has been pulling trees.

We lost this match alright but I thought many of the players did well. Cancelo did very well. We tired out and couldn’t manage the game against a very energetic counter attacking team - we didn’t loose because we lacked passing outlets. Our passing was very good then okay when we became leggy towards the end of the match.

De Bruyne stayed wide in the second half sometimes just like you could find him in the center sometimes because he’s allowed to roam. It’s quite different from playing there as his position. We can try that against Leeds not here. Maybe the game could have been over at the end of the first half.

Most modern strikers have times when they drift wide but if you are a wide man, the instructions are different. It’s not the same. Again this is not the match to try experiments.

Firstly, you're wrong AGAIN on us not having passing outlets via the middle being the issue. That's ALWAYS been our game since Guardiola's been here; control the defence, the middle and be creative in the final third. Bernardo in the final third is his most effective position as we have seen in past years, because he commits the opponent and drifts beyond the defence.

Who's he committing in his own half? You seem not to see he was ineffectual today until he got up the pitch as a secondary role. It should have been his primary and dropping in to help. He shouldn't be behind Rodri but ahead of him.

Secondly, just because I put De Bruyne on the left in formation doesn't mean he's stuck there, he'd drift. But the difference is having a midfielder to make use of the spaces and seeing the pass if he's not able to effect as he does, i.e., Gundogan. That's not the same with Rodri and Bernardo in tandem.

Finally, thirdly, you seem to forget the Jesus factor when he played in the position I suggested for Alvarez, with the pressing from the front as well as support for the striker and the attacking mid. And despite Cancelo only playing well in the second half, he, Foden nor Mahrez should have started for me.

I don't know what game you're watching, but your setup was dismantled/ nullified today and that's without the ref's involvement.

We played better second half, much the better team overall.

It’s simply difficult to win at this level when there are so many decisions that are jaw droppingly, deliberately wrong.

Even right at the death Bernie got wiped out 10 yards outside the box on the angle. Attwell made a big show of bending down and stretching around an implied obstruction to give the impression he couldn’t see what happened, denying us a last gasp delivery into the box.

There was the major corrupt decisions that are outrageous but you tot up the others;

Malacia allowed to foul at will with no warning or fuck all.
Rat face - two sliding tackles where he was no where near it, first one was stonewall, the second wasn’t on its own but two minutes after the first it was - fuck all given.

The Foden offside on 24 minutes (same Lino as their goal) you’d be needing a micrometer to measure that.

Timewasting yet again not accounted for.

Let these cunts have their day because despite the cheating and their luck we are fucking miles better.

We need to regroup, throw off the shackles and get back to incisive attacking.

Starting Thursday.
