Attempting to resolve the seat shortage situation after passengers had already boarded and were seated was the major cock-up here. Once it became apparent that nobody was going to be bumped voluntarily there was little the cabin crew and pilot could do. The passengers should have been asked to disembark and the situation should have been resolved at the gate. This would have taken time, but probably less than the eventual delay and without the PR disaster that was to follow.

I have been at a gate when they offered 200 usd the amount went up every 10 minutes cant remember how much by until they found their 7 seats, it didnt take long and the share price didn't take a battering.
Is it true about them getting the wrong Dr Dao, I have seen the original stories online, but no retractions.
