Police investigating a sick derby day graffiti attack on a well-known Blues pub are examining CCTV of the incident.
On the morning of City’s clash with United we revealed Mary D’s, in the shadows of Eastlands stadium, had been targeted in an early-hours strike.
Its walls were daubed with pro-United slogans and a sickening slur aimed at tragic former City midfielder Marc Vivien Foe, who collapsed and died while playing for Cameroon in 2003.
The slogans were painted over in time for the big match, which ended in a 0-0 draw.
But CCTV footage, obtained by the M.E.N, has been handed to police who are now trying to track those responsible.
They were worried it could have made tensions spill over ahead of what was already a hotly-anticipated clash. Despite the attack the match passed off without major incident.
The footage - which you can view below - shows a masked figure spray the slogans before running off towards Ashton New Road.
More than 500 readers commented on the story on our website. Many were United fans apologising for any offence the attack caused. Others included furious City fans.
The words ‘Manchester is red’, ‘MUFC’, ‘34 years’ and a slur at Foe were sprayed on the wall in red paint at around 2am.
Owner Mike Kehoe, aided by council workmen, painted over the words.
Mike, 50, hit out at those responsible and labelled the vandalism ‘over the top’. He passed the footage to officers at nearby Grey Mare Lane station.
Supt Jim Liggett said: “We are aware that graffiti had been daubed on a pub ahead of the game between Manchester City and Manchester United.
As soon as we were made aware the offensive graffiti was removed and we are making inquiries to identity those responsible for this senseless act.”
