United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Big test for Pep. The game has moved on and just trying to recreate another version of this City will probably not work. Wenger tried that at Arsenal and he and they just went steadily downhill so it's certainly not easy for a 'great' to reinvent themselves and adapt their thinking to a blank sheet and start again. We will see.

Interestingly, Arsenal have three ex City players (Jesus, Sterling and Zinchenko) and all look to have regressed since leaving City. So maybe the way City play is just mentally and physically exhausting. Remember Rodri complaining about the number of games last year?

Maybe, as others have said, we need a much larger squad so that burn out is avoided. We have 16 players earning more than £100,000 a week with 9 earning more than £200,000 a week! Bournemouth, who could overtake us in the League tomorrow, have 1 player earning £150,000 and the rest less than £100,000! So maybe, now that we are pretty much established as a top team we could attract really good players on 'realistic' sustainable wages? For instance, Antonee Robinson, Fulhams left back is on £50,000! Brentford's Brian Mbeumo is on £50,000. Matheus Cunha of Wolves is on £50,000. Now of course they would expect more at City and transfer fees are needed but all tree are good enough to get into the City squad without paying elite level wages.
Interesting, but I've always thought that final 5% to get you from being a good team to winners is huge.

I reckon a good manager could get a decent team from any group of players in the league, but only having some of the top 5% players and them performing will win the league for you.

The problem with our small elite squad is the fact at least 3 of them are forever injured!
Ake, Stones, De Bruyne are not putting in a full season of appearances between them. That is a huge loss.

I can handle defeats and I’ve seen enough over the years but getting home and seeing Walker go down like a bag of shit has really really pissed me off. He’s the fucking Captain!! Get rid ASAP
Just seen that, not good

I hope he apologises, I thought he was better than that.

The type of shit half their team would do btw.

My take is that Pep has wrung every last bit out of the players (not just this season with a makeshift team) but last season as well. He's worked miracles. We've seen a decline happen many times before, with Mourinho, Pisscan and Klopp. There comes a time where you've exhausted yourself and you cannot do any more, with yourself and the players left at your disposal. It's admirable that a manager will not throw the towel in and still believes things will turn around, however it's not much different than telling a boxer he's done everything he can - but needs to take a step back, and stop hurting themself. Pep has such a brilliant legacy and will not throw in the towel himself, and that is the stature of the man. Nothing against that at all - it's that winning menatality that drives him - and what gave us all something we could never have imagined. However, I'd be very surprised if the owners will keep backing him on the strength of our current results.

They won't give a hoot about that when they've got the 3pts.
Yeah, but the original poster gave credit to their manager. If you want to be a good football team ypu have to perform well. United have been here multiple times over the last 15 years. Picking up results while stinking the place out. It eventually ends in tears.

Similiarily we have played shit for the majority of the season, while picking up enough points to stay connected to the top of the table. 2 months ago if you pointed put that our performance levels are bloody awful people on here would go "fuck off, we got the three points". This eleven game run is what you get if the club doesn't rectify the performance levels and you stop getting the rub of the green.

Put it this way, even if we won 1-0 today we should have been furious about the performance. Unless we start performing again it makes little to no difference if we pick up points here and there. It isn't sustainable

Everyone knew that already about the 3, they chose to do fuck all about it.

Bournemouth barely break 10,000 crowds so they can’t justify higher salaries unless they’re winning trophies.
That's not the point. The point is that Bournemouth are competitive in the Premier League with many players earning an eighth of our top paid players. What I am saying is that we do not need every single squad player to be world class and on £200,000 a week plus. We can have a high class squad backed up with a backbone of worthy players. For instance Pablo Zabaleta was not world class but certainly did more than a good job for us.

Pep won't be here at the start of next season. And it'll be good for him, he needs a break.

Also think he's lost the players.
Whichever players he’s lost, get rid of.

How do you win 4 in a row and a treble and lose confidence in that? Turning on Ten Haag, sure, but Pep? Get out the fucking club then, Pep stays.
