United (H) Post Match Thread

It should be a positive that this defeat would normally allow United to read far too much into it, in terms of not needing as much improvement as their previous displays have suggested?

Mourinho refused to be anything but non-plussed, however, even so far as being 'nice' with regards his comments both beforehand and afterwards.

He knows better than anybody this was a freak result in the context of where the two teams currently stand and our second-string should have had the game out of sight before half-time.

Mourinho always has a motive, so it's either he's checked-out at United (would be a surprise), he's not getting his own way, or he's just trying to lull us into a false sense of security?

Thankfully, we also have someone in the other dugout who has seen it all before.

He had ample ammunition to vent with the Pogba comments on the eve of the game, yet he's hugging Vinny, he's all pally with Pep.

Coming off the back of the tunnel bust-up at United, the nature of their comeback win, it just seems all a little odd.
Mourinho has been very un-Mourinho like in recent weeks.

Personally I agree with you and think he knows full well Saturday was a freak result and his team are streets behind ours.

Could be argued he's sick of England and wants out, PSG and Mourinho are a match made in heaven, only a matter of time imo.

If Saturday was a 100m race it would be the equivalent of someone taking a 30m lead before doing a hamstring and pulling up 5m short.

Someone else may have crossed the line first, but no one is under any doubts about who is better, and the difference in quality.

Mourinho can't brag about winning because the first half will have been one of the most humiliating moments of his life as a manager. He was standing there helpless as his side got cut apart at will, and even though he ended up on the winning side, the abyss that was the gulf in quality between us in that first half will have left an impression.

He knows they have got an almighty gap to close just to make next season competitive.

Did the three Wigan defeats since then not remind you typical city is still alive and kicking?

"Typical City" is a bloody myth, along with gypsy's curses and the magic that's supposed to reside in the badges of such as the rags' and the scousers' badges, the "United way" and Arsenal always being the "best passing team"in the PL. It's all superstitious nonsense which, if anything, serves to shut our crowd up when the team needs them most. Hands up all those who actually believe last Wednesday's result was because European success is in Liverpool's genes? Or Saturday's because "Mourinho always finds a way"? Or because it's typical City? Absolute rubbish which comforts rags and others in their belief that some malign force makes sure we'll never be any good.

Peps dying out for another clinical goal scorer, like someone said earlier a Muller or Lewandowski as well as Aguero.

We should've been 4 or 5 up by HT.

At elite level football in the biggest games we can't waste chances like Raheem did on Sat.

I've stayed off here after the game till now to think about this but the main thing we are lacking in is concentration, once one goes in, heads go down and more follow.

However it was a freak result, even PEG knows that, 9 times out of 10 we beat them comfortably.

Typical city isn't a myth, its just a term to describe us doing things the hard way etc. We have the nack of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, we have a habit of doing things the difficult way. It works both ways and our successes come from the typical city tag too. Every team has a fuck up in them really but that's the way we describe it when it happens to us.

Pep made a huge mistake in not playing his strongest team, we would have won the league against that horrible club ( Herrera proves it ) we would not ever let them forget that, and tues would have been rocking. We go again, fck me I sounded like slippy G then.

I definitely did find the subdued ‘celebrations' from José to be a surprise.

As you say, he had alot of ammunition to go with - normally he only needs a sniff ad he’s off.

Any thoughts on his reasoning behind this?

Typical city would be losing that game and United becoming champions but the fact is they are 14 points short of being able to do so with 6 games to go.

The contrast between the two teams is massive and this was only the 2nd time we have lost in the league out of 32 attempts...

I was disappointed and I think we all were but prevously we won leagues on the last game of the season and not with 6 games to go....

There is nothing typical about city this year and it is only bad if you believe winning over United is more important than the fact we WILL be champions eventually.

All we have to do to the end of the season is not lose again and we will be champions... That is how far ahead we are.

Absolutely Hugh, I mean, Blue.

Obviously hard to speak for Pep but I’d imagine that’s where his biggest frustration lies - our profligacy.

If you read Pep Confidential the wasted chances also happened many times at Bayern as well. Also collapses as we saw against the dippers and rags happened to his sides before in the Champs league. Part of the system we play but as he says it’s successful most of the time. He has said he may need to re-evaluate.

Good point did not look happy there at all. Reckon he would be off to PSG if he got the chance.
