CL qualification is vital to attract elite players for the rebuild/refit.
That's why I'd rather go out of the CL at this stage, and concentrate on nailing a top 4 spot. Let's be honest, we're highly unlikely (not impossible, unlikely) to win the CL this season, are we? And the fact we'd have fewer games to deal with in the second half of the season can only be a benefit. Obviously, there'd be a financial hit going out early, but we don't seem to have been spending hugely in the last few years, despite regularly getting to the q/f and s/f stages in the last 4 or 5 seasons.

Ortega
Walker
Dias
Gvardiol
Kovacic
Grealish
Nunes
KDB
Bernardo
Foden
Haaland

That’s assuming Kova and Phil are fit to start. Would love Akanji back but not looking likely.

The chance to win the CL without Rodri isn't big (he might be available for the semis, though), but worse English teams than City won it in the past, e.g., Liverpool in 2005 (5th in the PL), Chelsea in 2012 (6th), Villa in 1982 (11th!).

It's too early to write the CL off. We might sign quality players in January and have a lot less injuries in the 2nd half of the season. It's not like we are 8th and have to concentrate entirely on top 4 (or even 5, as 5th place might be enough for a CL spot).

Reasons to be more than optimistic regardless of our dip in form/confidence....
  • Rags have lost five of their past six Premier League matches against Manchester City - conceding 18 goals in those five defeats.
  • Rags have lost on their past three Premier League visits to Etihad Stadium, by an aggregate score of 13-5.
  • Rags could equal their longest away losing streak against a single Premier League team - matching their current record against Arsenal of four (2022 to present). It would also equal their longest away losing streak in league Manchester derbies: four from 1952 to 1955.

If haaland takes his chances we will win
Despite our drop off we still have plenty of the ball and still produce loads of chances
Our side to side shit will give us the possession stats but it means fuckall if we keep missing chances.
Utd are shite but have fast forwards
Against our pensioners we will be cut open
As long as we bang in some of our chances we will win.
3-1 city

Edit: just popped up in my phone we are going to sell Ruben?
gotta be bullshit Shirley
