United Post Match Thread

People looking at our defence as to why we lost yesterday, but had we took our chances, we would have won that game. Yes, Martin had a mare, but up front we don't have a good conversion rate between chances and goals.
Spot on, and we've been at it all season. The defence can be, and often is quite lamentable, but our attackers have been guilty ALL season of missing too many chances, and many of the games (yesterday included) would have been won. They shouldn't get off scot free while the defence get it all, 26 shots on goal, and only 3 on target, is shockingly poor, they had 4 on target from 5 shots !

The biggest issue yesterday was picking the wrong side again.

Hart
Zab Sagna Mangala Clichy
Fernando
Fernandhino Toure Sterling
Aguero

Especially as it was likely united would have two whippets up front.

I knew when I heard the press conference on Friday that we were going to struggle, as he said we were going to attack, in a game that frankly all we had to do was NOT lose, so it immediately meant that we would be easily got through in the middle, leaving out Fernando confirmed it.

The change to bring Fernando on was 25 minutes too late for me, it was that obvious right from the start.

Everyone calm down now, ffs. Nothing gets fixed by being bell-ends. Some people are going completely over the top. It's been a shit season. Roll on August.

That was forced on him. Just think that the management/players are like us and can't wait for the end of the season.

That was forced on him.
I know it was, Sterling was injured a full 5 minutes before it occurred, it was clear to me, and yet nobody warmed up, in the end the change was made easy for him, but all it did was mend his own mistake, its a shame an injury caused it, and not the realisation that it was already a f**k up.

Had Sterling not got injured, he wouldn't have changed it and we might have gone further behind before halt time, it was so wide open through the middle.

Me grow up? You've reacted four times to my posts because I called a player a fuckwit. You admitted you may have read it wrong. You did. I thought the two of them were to blame. I said MdM was stupid for playing that pass whilst not looking. What part of this do you disagree with?

You then ask if I thought he did it deliberately - no I don't but it was careless in the extreme. Again - do you disagree with this?

You seem to have reached the point where no matter what I explain, you're not going to back down and accept that you were wrong in the first instance.

It was the manner of your post I took issue with. Demi is 35 years old and wanted to leave last season, but was convinced to stay on. We all know that he has lost a lot of pace this season, even though he finished stronly last season.

He shouldn't have been on the pitch in the first place but that wasn't his fault (maybe he should have said to Pellers, I am not match fit and forced his hand), but that is another debate.

You asked me did I think it was a mistake, which in my mind implies you thought it was deliberate (apologies if I had that wrong). For me, Joe was 100% in the wrong as he dithered and allowed the scum time to press. He will also be very aware that Whilst Demi is very comfortable with the ball at his feet, he hadn't the pace to do something with the ball.

I don't think it was a mistake and I think he had a bad day at the office, but I would never call any of our players a fuckwhit for having a bad day. At my age, calling someone a fuckwhit is a permanent tag i.e. constantly useless, which clearly is not the case as he has had some very good games for us.

Hopefully, we are in somewhat agreement now

The strikers have not been taking enough of the chances but we have a situation where Bony has been injured/ill, Iheanacho has been ignored & basically everything is on Aguero, who has also spent long periods injured.

Not long ago we had Tevez, Dzeko & Balotelli then Negredo, all capable of 20 goals plus. Pellegrini said he didn't sign a replacement for Dzeko because of Iheanacho. Has Iheanacho played anywhere near as much as Dzeko would have done ?

Pellegrini has put all his eggs in the basket of Aguero. Yet another unispired piss easy way out decision.

A serious concern must be whether Aguero will put up with it for much longer. It's like man vs boys most games with him running around and trying to win the game single-handed.

He must be starting to get seriously pissed off and to be honest, who could blame him. He's started playing deeper and deeper because he just doesn't trust the dross behind him to get the ball forward at speed if at all. If we lose out on the CL and Barca and/or Real come knocking as they surely will, I fear him might be off.

Can't complain too much about yesterday, didn't let myself get too down about it and have taken all the digs from the plastic wankers at work today. I knew it was coming, everyone did based on how we've played for the most part of this season and the team selection. I don't buy that we've been fucked over by injuries, not to the extent of how shit we've been.

How many times are we going to get caught out by playing a defender who's legs have gone against a younger, pacier forward? Why is our manager not bollocking our centre halves for continually going to ground, lunging into tackles in dangerous areas? Why, when we're 'attacking' and I use that term very loosely, do our wingers refuse to cross the ball? Why is our midfield constantly outnumbered? Why was Yaya, in a 2 man midfield yesterday, taking free kicks on the edge of our box? Why can't Joe Hart take a quick kick/throw, ever. He sees the man, he wants to do it but ALWAYS waits until the chance has passed. We are without a shadow, the slowest, most predictable side in this league. Aguero hit the post yesterday with a header. Passed long from defence, yaya crossed, Aguero on the end of it. That was the only time we tried to get anyone to stretch their legs and it worked. The rest of the time was get forward, cut it back try to play it through 11 men, rinse and repeat. Why does Bony get straight back into the squad ahead of Nacho? (Bony actually did OK yesterday). Why do ALL other teams want it more than us? Why do other teams work harder than us? Why, when we're playing 2 wingers, is one of the best centre forwards in world football dropping 40 yards so he gets a kick of the ball? Why is an obviously unfit Silva playing? Why, when we have 2 of the fastest players in the league who both play on opposite wings, do we never utilise this threat? Why can we never challenge for the 2nd ball after a long ball forward?

Yesterday we could have played Nacho, Garcia and young Tosin. They'd have been right up for it. The result may have been the same (I don't think it would have been) but it would have given the team and the fans a lift.

I think we're going to struggle on for the rest of the year. I think the chairman likes being a nice guy too much and won't sack Pellegrini. I think this whole saga has been handled appallingly, from Bayern leaking the initial story of Pep coming here (which we couldn't control) to the way we've allowed this absolute clusterfuck of effortlessness and ineptitude to manifest. We're in dire need of someone to knock a few heads together.

Will we gets champions league next year? I doubt it. As a 'customer', that's how were seen now, I'm not fussed, I'll still go to the games, as a club that now cares more about official tampon partners and whether Tarquin and Felix from Hertfordshire will enjoy their Jamie Oliver burger more than whether they're going to keep hold of the 40,000 or so people who go no matter what, it's absolutely disastrous.

We're going to need/want to shift a sizeable part of our squad over the summer. Starting with both goalkeepers. Hart may escape the cull because of the magnitude of changes. But I think Pep will be looking to replace him due to his reluctance to catch a cross and his awful distribution. I'm hoping, for sentimental reasons, he's just having a bad time because the manager is a fucking wanker and this can be coached out of him. Denayer needs to come back, vinny needs to get fit and Mangala had a decent game yesterday. I think there's a player in there somewhere. We need fullbacks although I think Kolarov has a place believe it or not. Maybe Zab too but as 2nd choice. Clichy, sagna and Demichellis are gone. Fernando, silva, navas and yaya are gone too. Bony is out. In my opinion, we need to replace those 8 outfield players with probably 4/5 and promote denayer, Garcia and give nacho a shot as 2nd striker behind Aguero. If Pep wants to play 2 up top or a front 3 we may need to buy another striker. But DeBruyne and Raheem will fill in/play as forwards/attacking midfielders.

Training methods will also be changed under the new man. Hopefully, this will eradicate the muscle injuries we've had this year.

On the whole, we have been fucking gash for months. Pellegrini looks completely lost, he also doesn't give a toss. We've gone backwards through poor recruitment, lack of competition for places and an unwillingness to change. The engineer, ain't.

Gone off on a complete ramble there... As you were.

You raise a valid point but apart from our recent signings (Kev & Raheem), its the same players who would have been feeding him. All is not well in camp

Its not just "strikers" though NK, its attacking players, we simply have missed far too many easy chances all season, doesn't matter what names are on the shirts, so it wasn't a dig at Aguero or anyone else in particular. You cannot have 26 shots on goal, and only 3 on target, its pathetic, and its not limited to yesterday, its been ongoing all season. I said it back in early November, every now and then we score 3, 4, or even 5 in a few minutes, but even in these games we have been missing too many chances.
