Heard that advert on key 103 this morning as well. Fucking hell what an embarrasement they are. I noticed the usual 'can't get a ticket' rag mob didn't seem to hear it!
Think you may be getting a tad carried away here? Embarrassing for a football club to advertise tickets in the midst of a recession?

Hardly news that Utd's season tickets have gone on general sale either. To the best of my knowledge ST have ended up on general sale for at least the last 2-3 seasons before eventually selling out (and that's despite winning 7 trophies, and finishing champs lge runners up twice in the last 5 years, dispelling any deserting gloryhunter accusations). I think the main reasons for that are cost and dissatisfaction with the Glazers ownership (cost being the overriding factor).

The current advertising campaigns are testimony to that and seem to indicate a more aggressive marketing strategy on ticket sales (possibly with one eye on the proposed IPO), hardly makes the club an embarrassment tho.

Just heard they've put off a decision on the IPO after a discussion between their bankers and the club board. They were hoping to launch it in the next few days but may not do it now for another month.

If they leave it any longer than that, then they'll have to pull it completely as it would mean they'd then have to reveal their full 2012 results which would kill it stone dead as they will be awful (by their standards) and no one would touch it with a barge pole after that.

Not only is the clock going tick-tock but the hour's about to strike.
On the assumption it'll speed up the departure of the yank leeches, I sincerely hope you're right PB. However, I have a sneaky feeling the 2011/12 year end results won't be as bad as you're expecting. Yes match day and tv income will be majorly impacted by last season's champions league flop but I expect that to be offset in part by increased commercial revenue.

I remember when Utd were a plc they used to base budgets on reaching champs lge quarter finals, anything beyond that being a bonus. I'd imagine the Glazers will be similarly realistic so not be relying purely on a lengthy champs lge run alone to drive the growth of the clubs revenue.

I'd suggest that it is a bit of an embarrassment mate and you state the reasons yourself. The Glazer's have pushed the prices up forcing some supporters to priorities their expenditure. The reason they pushed the prices is self-explanatory which has also cost them the support from the fans. Finally, without a trophy and many seeing the outlook of possible more failures then more and more are walking away.

There's no embarrassment to the fans, apart from those who are refusing to renew due to you not bringing in the silverware, the embarrasment is that the Glazer's, and Ferguson, have brought the club to this point.

PS. Taggart's comments regarding the 'fans' in relation to the Glazer's is a little embarrassing looking from the outside but I'd guess they were damn well infuriating for any 'real' United fan?

this, don't forget, is from the world's most popular club (tm) that had a legendary season ticket waiting list for many years. now, they're struggling so much to shift season tickets that they get baconface to do an embarrassing video wittering on about all the last minute drama united had last season (funny i thought it was city who had that) and begging people to sign up. then they do a mass leafleting of addresses in greater manchester and cheshire in an attempt to drum up more support. now they'e advertising on the radio.

on the other hand city sold out 2 hours. yes, i know the stadium capacities are different but united have the biggest support in the world whereas city always have 20,000 empty seats ;)

They didn't sell their season tickets out last season.

For a support which has spent 30 years ridiculing City's support it is embarrassing.

Might take a couple of seasons without a trophy before the gaps start opening up. One season and their support starts to crack. Try 35 years

Similar for me. I took myself upstairs around the 75th minute as I couldn't face watching the rest. After what seemed like an eternity, I turned the TV on in my room and stoppage time had just started in both matches - we were winning and they were losing.

I got my scarf and flag ready to celebrate. Then they equalised, our match finished, I switched over to their match and just as I did.......that goal happened

These two 'men'...........

Eric Cantona 'kung fu kicked coffee table after Manchester United lost title'

By Paul Byrne |

Eric Cantona Kung Fu kicked a coffee table after watching Manchester United lose their Premier League title last season.

His son Raphael revealed his dad’s torment to a United fan in Barcelona.

He said the pair had watched the season’s climax on TV and thought the Reds had held on to the title as rivals Manchester City were being held at home by QPR.

But City’s Sergio Aguero scored a winner with just seconds left to hand the Premier League trophy to the Sky Blues on goal difference.

Raphael, 23, said his dad, famed for his Kung Fu attack on Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons in 1995, kicked out at the coffee table.

He told United supporter Jonathan Cruise: “It smashed to pieces. My dad was angry and upset. He still adores United and we thought they were going to hang on to the title.”

Jonathan, 21, from Manchester, met Raphael outside a club in Barcelona.

He said: “It was about 2am and I had gone outside for a cigarette. A guy kindly asked me for a cigarette so I gave him one and he then asked me where I was from.

“When I said ‘from Manchester’ he smiled. He went on to ask me if I was a blue or a red and when I said ‘red’ he smiled even more.

“He went on to say ‘my father is the king in Manchester’ and when I asked what he meant he said his dad was Eric Cantona.

He went on to tell me what had happened on the last day of the season with a big grin on his face.

“He said the coffee table just disintegrated onto the carpet and we had a laugh at what had happened.

“I told him it was a pleasure to meet Cantona’s son and we shook hands.

“When we got back to England we checked his Facebook account and there is no doubt it was definitely Raphael. He was a sound guy.

“It shows just how passionate his dad still is about United.”

Another couple of classics

Can't believe how many of you were celebrating.
The second our match finished I allowed myself about half a second of pleasure at having done our part, then had to go and stand in the far corner of the room facing the wall and praying.
Suffice to say I swiftly found out God does not exist.

This one is particularly good, seems the Sunderland fans have upset a rag.

I sat in silence for almost an hour in the pub afterwards, staring at my pint and ignoring my phone.

Those Sunderland fans celebrating will get their commupance - hopefully there will come a point where we send them down.

There's much about the Glazers, and their ownership of Utd, that I find cringeworthy but I was replying specifically to the inference that advertising tickets on the radio made the club an embarrassment. I don't believe it does.

With regards to your question about Fergies stance on the Glazers/fans since the takeover. On more than one occasion he's made it clear which side of the fence he's on with regards to the current ownership of the club. Speaking personally I lost huge amounts of respect for him as a man several seasons back when he spoke out about our (the fans) opposition to the Glazers ownership, and ended with the classic line "if they don't like it they can bugger off n watch that mob down the road (FCUoM)". I nearly gave up my season ticket there n then but, tbh, I preferred going to the match to having principles. I only eventually gave up my ticket when I could no longer justify the expense (having 3 very young children).

Obviously Utd will never mean as much to Ferguson as it will to myself, and many other supporters. He wasn't brought up supporting Utd or, to be poetic, didn't have the club running thro his veins as we do, until he was appointed manager. He's obviously an extremely driven man who will do whatever he thinks it takes to try and ensure his team wins, even if that means turning on the loyal support of the club or kissing the ringpiece of the current owners.

That will never diminish my admiration and respect for him as a manager, but I no longer have much time for him as a man. In my eyes he once ranked up there with Busby as a great football manager AND a gentleman of the game, sadly only part of that is still true.
