Slur Alex?

Paolo Di Canio has revealed how he once turned down an approach from Sir Alex Ferguson to play for Manchester United, saying that he could never have turned his back on West Ham.

The call arrived during the festive period and Di Canio first thought it was a joke. When he realised Sir Alex was serious, he politely refused.

"It was Christmas and I got a call on my phone, and it was Ferguson," Di Canio told Italy's Fox Sport.

"You could tell from his voice that he had been drinking and he asked me if I wanted to join Manchester United.

"To begin with, I thought it was a joke from a friend and I told him where to go three times before I realised it really was him.

Merry Christmas! *hic*

Would that be classed as an illegal approach?

Bit like the one for Moyes that nothing was done about.

I don't agree on that one.

Gollum was nearly out of contract when scum approached him, so it's hardly an illegal approach, IMHO.

Surely that only makes it almost not an illegal approach?

It's started again. BBC linking them with:

1. Athletico Madrid's Koke for £30m.
2. Marco Reus for £40m.
3. Lallana for £15m (I think he'd be rated more around the £20m mark now).

All that, and I also heard a Rag yesterday talking about Schneider!

Should be a fun January, and the state they're in I'd suggest they'll be linked with every player on the planet, and expect their history to be mentioned ad nauseum as there is no Ferguson factor any more.

Don't forget the "romance" of playing for united. I'm led to believe that's often a deal clincher.

That's not the BBC, though; it's the round-up of the stories in today's papers.

I get that, but it's still the BBC reporting it. There are probably a hundred stories in the papers, and online, linking clubs with players and vice versa, but Auntie decides to report 3 stories regarding the Rags. As I said above, it's started!
