Rooney may miss games

David Moyes has said that Wayne Rooney’s groin injury could force the striker out of action despite his full 90 minutes in the defeat to Tottenham on New Year’s Day.

Rooney’s participation had been in some doubt ahead of the Reds’ first game of 2014, following his absence from the win over Norwich on 28 December. The manager had said Rooney would be assessed in the hours leading up to kick against Spurs, but the 28-year-old made the starting line-up and also completed the entire match at Old Trafford.

With United back in action on Sunday when Swansea City visit for the third round of the FA Cup, and with just over 48 hours after that to the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final at Sunderland, the manager admits he will need to manage Rooney’s injury situation and the needs of the team carefully.

“The plan was to play Wayne for 90 minutes, but he has a bit of a groin injury,” said Moyes. “The longer it went on, we had to try to get more attacking players on the pitch to try and find more ways to score. If I could (rest Rooney) I would, but the games are coming thick and fast. He has missed a game with his groin and he may well miss some more coming up.”

Robin van Persie was absent for the Spurs game due to a thigh problem that has kept him out of action for three weeks, and when asked whether the Dutch international would be available for next Sunday, Moyes responded: “I’m not sure yet.”

Moyes said Rooney has a groin injury and may have to sit out. Apparently he played today injured and it worsened. Van Persie a doubt.

They are really fucked.

Or Rooneys said 'fuck you Gollum, you may as well go looking for your precious ring,i'm off and I I'm going to be injury free when I do'

Will Ronaldo be going to United in January ? It will be fascinating who Moyes buys in January .

best soap opera on telly !!!
i would think they,ll definitely "panic buy " ,but what decent players could they attract ?
the sensible thing to do in my mind would be wait till summer, but theres too much pressure to do something about it the immediate problems

They cannot contemplate the idea of being out of the top slot, let alone just being in the top four, so forget about Europa, they're too good for that pile of nonsense, but wait a mo, they aren't even in the frame for that!!! Jeez, it's hard being a Rag these days!
It feels so good that we are miles better than them . Long may it continue .

I keep getting texts from my rag 'mate' saying..."champions 20 (13)..
I'm trying to get through to him that it's 2014 and no need to keep looking back....
Got 5 rag mates and a grand total of 6 texts sent to me today, they have all lost their mojo, they used to text me at all hours and take the piss and gloat but now I have to text at least 10 times to get a bite and they do eventually..
So thanks to wee davy he's took a whole bag of joy away from me by being absolutely fuckin useless...
Thanks you wank bastard.

Do they have enough true fans who can stomach attending matches if there's a decent chance that they could go home disappointed? IMO the true measure of a club is the loyalty of its fans. I know they have a lot of fanatics but how many are really loyal? Maybe as much as I hate their club I could muster some respect if they stand by their club as it struggles through bad times.

(Bad times will come back to haunt us too some day btw but at least I know we will shoulder well... Just hope it's a long long way off)

I am genuinely surprised the media haven't seriously starting talking about how much time Moyes has left now - as I was after the Newcastle defeat before their little run. Ferguson is only one member on the board and he's not the owner and his influence in the Glazer's eyes surely must have diminished since his shit choice of successor. They aren't going to blindly follow this 'give him time' mantra forever - though I wish they bloody would!
Surely finishing outside of the Top 4 isn't an option for the owners and thus they will already have considered a replacement? It's ridiculous how all talk is about what Moyes will do in the window and not whether he will be in charge to spend any money available.

Didn't AVB get sacked when Tottenham were basically on the same points as United a few weeks ago?

I said a couple of weeks ago that if they didn't get more than 9 points from the following 5 games, they wouldn't make top 4. They won the next three so it's all down to their next game, at home to Swansea. If they play as well as they played today, the Swans could easily win that.

That's the Fa cup though
That's also their next league game funnily enough.

Arr. yes your right

Yeah but the ( Rag) media will be reluctant to do this until they get the word from within the swamp that its ok to prepare the ground for his sacking - will be interesting to see who breaks ranks first if not.

I'd bet that if question are asked internally Woodward will offer up Moyes's head PDQ to save his own

At least Fellaini's back in training.

I have always said that when he is on his way out, the PR machine will do all the prep work for it, briefing the press, letting out bits of gossip that sort of thing, it's the way it works
