Heard it might be ibrahimovic in some sort of swap with di Maria

Given Ibrahimovic will demand HUGE wages (if Schweinsteiger is on £250k a week, and Rooney on £300k a week, can you see Ibra accepting anything lower?!) and he'll be 34 before Christmas I wouldn't be too bothered if he did join United, he's not got too many years left in him and would be, yet another, short term signing brought in to placate the United fans. Social Media would explode, and SKY/BBC/The Sun would hype it up to the rafters, so United fans will be blinded to the fact that United, and Van Gaal, are ignoring their future for the here and now.

Completely agree with this.

For all the posturing, United don't have any sort of conceivable plan for the next couple of years, never mind the next ten.

Their plan is to buy their way out of trouble and so far it's working. They don't need a youth policy.

I want them to balls up everything but I think short term is probably their best shot. Long term is a problem for another day and they have bigger cushions than most.

Is it working though? Look at the money spent last season and they were still 17 points off the Champions and 9 off us.

They moved forward even if luck played a big factor. They don't really care how much it cost them last year and will for the next few years. Failing to build (even slowly) would be disastrous to them. I think they have learned from their previous few years.

I hate them.. but it's hardly desperate. Getting US fans out to anything takes a lot of marketing because there are a bazillion entertainment and sport options. Still plenty of their "fans" out there while they hold on the belief of their continued right to win.
