I've never understood this obsession with football fans to deny any and all weakness exist or others have any strengths. In their world getting beaten by United must have being an absolutely inexplicable event given that we're better than them in every position and they're completely wank. This is probably where all of the outrage comes from towards the manager or the DoF or whoever, they have no idea why it happened so just point at somebody as it being there fault.
The same happened when I suggested that Barcelona pretty much had a better squad than us in every single position before our two legs against them. Many shouted me down and said many of our players would walk into their team and we were going to do them home and away. But the fact remains that they're still better than us in almost every position and our squad still isn't of that quality. It will be one day given enough investment, development, guidance and success both home and abroad but it isn't there yet. Same with Bayern and Real who man for man are just better than us outright.
It's ok. It is ok to not be insufferably arrogant and think that everything associated with the club is perfect and the best in the world just because it carries our logo on it. It's ok that we're not the best squad in the world. We're attempting to become it and moving in the right direction year by year, season by season. Footballing realities dictate that if we're going to strengthen then we're going to have a large upgrade rather than a tiny upgrade for such a hugely important position; this is what I imagine the pursuit of Pogba was about and why a Barkley or Wilshere didn't come in. But we didn't sign them and are left with a weakness in our centre mid spot. That's fine, we'll address it either in January or more likely next summer. This season was about addressing the somewhat snail's pace in the attack by bringing two people who will compliment Aguero's game and give him the type of service that he wants. Like Barcelona and Real Madrid, our executive staff are now talking about how they can help their talisman win the Balon D'Or and financially backing him in the market to help him achieve it. If he doesn't then it's ultimately on his own shoulders.
We can't do it all at once. This summer was to improve the quality of the attack. Next summer will probably be our centre mid, possibly with a few recruits from Bayern if the Guardiola deal much gossiped about does actually happen such as Thiago.
But none of this changes the fact that their 4 as a whole/unit are more talented than ours as a whole/unit. Yes Yaya is above them all head and shoulders. Him aside though, you people are seriously looking at players like Schweinsteiger, Carrick and Herrera then comparing him to Fernando and thinking Fernando is the better player? I mean, there's just nothing at all to support that outside of the colour of the shirt that he's wearing.
I can honestly say that they have the better centre midfield squad depth. I can also then honestly say that we're better in numerous other positions. I'm happy that the second sentence there is probably a rational viewpoint and not a product of inane delusion because the first one also isn't.
