No, I don't think a side that won the treble in 99 would qualify for the CL. They weren't head and shoulders above anyone and weren't the best team in Europe that season either.

Winning a CL doesn't denote that. Look at Liverpool in 2005 or Chelsea a few years back, neither finished top 4 in the league.

Playing a 442 every week with that team they'd get twatted on the break to the likes of Palace, Arsenal, ourselves, West Ham and even the current United.

As I say, it's a different age now and they wouldn't be anywhere near as successful with that set up.

As for pissing the league, you're having a laugh.
They would possibly win the league but only if the piss can was still there.
The cunts got 15 points s season from bent refs and other managers rolling over waiting for the Scottish bastard to enter them.

im deadly serious but its just my opinion, didn't they win the league playing 442 3 years ago ? watch the semi v Arsenal in 99 that Arsenal side didn't twat them on the break constantly and I'm quite sure they were better than West Ham and Palace, it was only 99 not 39

Thought you looked better when Fellani come on and Lindegard for that matter. Glad Rooney was up top and not Martial.

Yeah Fellaini actually did ok. You could tell Schweinsteiger was tiring, and he looked tidy enough. I did question Lingard coming on i must admit, but he didn't do badly. As for Rooney, i'm just not quite sure what it's going to take for Van Gaal to drop him. He must have some serious dirt on him, i'm sure of it. His decline has been shockingly quick. He's been average/good for a few seasons now but he's dropped into Gerrard levels of 'past it'. All Hollywood balls and just a general liability.

3 years ago sort of but look at the league this year. Look at the table. The buying power of the premier league now is allowing all teams to buy players they couldn't have 16 years ago.

16 years ago Sterling was 4. It was a fair old time ago.

We have the same with Yaya, just a passenger now.

No chance, they will be battling for third, forth and fifth place,it's between us and Arsenal although if they get a few injuries to key players it could be their downfall....
Moss,Taylor and Mason are rotated and get plenty of rest for them...

Otamendi had rooney on toast all game.
He used to love scoring against us but he's way off it now. Is he carrying an injury or is half way through his metamorphosis into John hartson?

Yeah, passenger is the word i was looking for. Just about sums it up.

He did have an ankle injury. But it only ruled him out of the England game, so hard to know how much of a real 'injury' there was. However if true, he always takes a good 5-6 games to get up to speed and play himself into form etc. Given he was already god awful before that, it may take him a while. The longer it carries on the more i believe he's genuinely finished. He's been at the top since he was 16, it could be that he's just burnt out and done.

Rooney always struck me as a player who was always going to peak to soon.

When he burst onto the scene he was like a man in a kids body and combine that with his lifestyle, he was never going to have to longevity of someone like Shearer. I think Rooney might be better off used as an impact sub, he might get more luck against tired legs and technically he is still a good player.

I think your last sentence has nailed it there. Burnt out. He's club captain isn't he? In my opinion I think rooney burnt his bridges with you lot after the transfer request malarkey. It's hard to get fans back onside when that happens. I dont think van gaal is the type that will listen to fans. You're stuck with him.

Probably the wrong thread but I've never seen so many thick and ignorant people as I've seen today.
I've been to O/T many times in the past but it has amazed me today that some people are allowed to breed and bring them up to be match going utd fans
Maybe it's just a sign of the times but it appears the 'newer' utd fan just wants to prove their worth by hanging around outside the East stand giving it the big one at City fans with kids in front of their mates.
I know it's always happened but nowadays you need an interpreter to tell you what threats the Irish/ Cockneys are giving you

They are a strange breed some of them, there is a peculiar violent streak in them as well, as Corporal Jones once said "they don't like it up em"

Yeah definitely. His best season came as a 25 year old, and his form ever since has been patchy. It's just so hard to tell with such an inconsistent player. His touch can be on point one minute, and the next balls will bounce straight off him. He struggles to even do the basics right sometimes. We're just going to have to keep hoping he plays himself into form, since there's no real way of knowing if he's really had it or if it's just his usual routine.

Yep, signed a 5 year deal in 2014. On £300, 000 a week. We can thank Moyes for that one haha.

It's funny because I think old Whiskey Nose knew that Rooney was finished and deliberately tried to get rid of him so Moyes could build a new team. But they Wee Davey, who has always had a hard on for Rooney, wanted him to stay.

Based on the games I've seen of them, and today, they are going to draw a lot of blanks this season and it's going to prevent them being serious challengers. We clearly attacked poorly and missed passes, but they genuinely offer very little threat at all and it wasn't even clear how they intended to score until they brought on the big lump and started playing for knock downs. I can't remember a team threaten us so little this season

They put out their strongest lineup at home and barely had a couple of good shots. They're 4th place material and will be competing against the likes of Spurs.
