If he left Rooney at home and took him that'd be okay with me!

Hodgson's comments about Rashford are astonishing.

Vardy, Kane, Sturridge, Rooney, Welbeck, Deeney, Defoe, Walcott and Afobe are all way, way ahead of him in the pecking order.

Rashford has played ONE league game and Hodgson says he's in contention for the Euros. Extraordinary. You could put a sheep in a United shirt and Roy would pick him!

It's two league games, how can you deny 50% of his professional career ?

The dilemma the Rags have is to stick with the Turtle another year or bring in Mourinho to go for bigger targets but bin most of the yoof that they're coming in their kecks about at the moment.
Get the feeling that they'll give up their precious United Way to stay in the top table game.

Hodgson didn't say that!

He said he wasn't going to rule him out, which is managerspeak for not committing, and quite a smart one too. The media have spun that into "in contention".

The quote in the Guardian is:
“I have been watching Rashford for two years so I have known about him for a long time,” said the England manager. “He is in our system and plays for the Under-18s – players we believe in and who we think have a bright future – so we’re delighted he and others are getting chances in the first team at their clubs. That is wonderful and long may it continue.
“I hope he has a good end to the season. Most of all, I hope he is allowed to develop as an 18-year-old should and people don’t try to put him under pressure. Scoring four goals in three games is a great achievement and, if he can keep that up, it is great for Manchester United and England as well. I would neither rule him in or rule him out [of senior contention in the summer]. I just hope he can do well.”

Nothing there to say he's in contention, any more than any other junior player.

Even more astonishing is the fact that Shaw is apparently still one (crocked) foot on the plane to France this summer. I would've ruled him out the instant he broke his leg - by summer the break from competitive football will be too long. What's not helping is that the individual was a bit chubby to begin with - imagine him now after nine months out. He must have put on a little extra weight.
