Yeah, it's just a rinse and repeat of the Green and Gold campaign and that had no effect on getting rid of the Glazers either despite being far bigger than this effort. Don't get me wrong - I'm all for fan activism and have been involved in a lot of that myself. We also have a good relationship with Duncan and the lads over at MUST and have worked with them on a lot of fan related issues. What we've found is that edgy protests can be beneficial but you also need people with diplomacy driving it too. These rent-a-mob MIB/Manchester Education Committee dickheads don't have the latter, have never had the latter, and are never likely to have the latter, and consequently will never achieve fuck-all.
Yeah, there’s a part of me that can get behind this as sometimes direct fan action is the only thing that works, the only way that fans can have some sort of voice. We more than anyone know this with the Swales Out campaign back in the day. The national ‘Twenty’s Plenty’ campaign achieved a cap on away ticket prices. And you can tell that the suits at Chelsea were sent spinning into a blind panic by what happened outside their ground on Tuesday night. They might have already been planning to follow City’s lead in quitting the ESL but the shock of having an angry mob at the gates spooked them into breaking what I strongly suspect to be a gentlemen’s agreement with City on the timing of announcing it publicly.
All that said, however, it has to be couched in the terms of history. This particular stunt plays into the faux socialist, faux ultra, faux hard man image many of these ‘Top Reds’ love to project. Whether confronting Rio and Rooney mob handed at their homes because they dared to consider leaving (both players who left their previous clubs to join them, remember) or shouting at and trying to intimidate bemused teenage shop girls at the old City Store in Market Street for simply doing their jobs at a time when we were catching them up on and off the field, these thickos have previous for mistakenly believing that their bully boy tactics have any effect or value whatsoever.
Still, they might get a #TopRed like on Twitter from Pete Boyle or Anthony Crolla and thats all that really matters, eh?
As you alluded to, modern warfare is won just as much by diplomats as soldiers. Imagine being part of a fanbase that can’t gather enough of both and the collective will to oust an unpopular owner? Even Blackpool and Charlton managed that, let alone City. They should be embarrassed at their collective inaction since Ferguson got greedy for horse spunk.
It’s telling that one of the banners includes a reference to their 20 titles. How many of those were won as a result of rampant capitalism enabling them to outspend everyone else for decades? They weren’t complaining then.
This latest stunt also seems to have been dreamed up by Red Issue, a fanzine with a history of dog whistle racism against our owners and which in recent times has descended into the sort of Covid denier lunacy that would make even Ian Brown blush.

What is this horseshit?

You've called it.

It's grade A Premium horseshit.

I actually don't think it's that unlikely.

Everyone has their limit, and Woodward has been the Glazer's lightning rod for 10 years now. There comes a point when you've earned so much, and the threats against your family get so wearing and you just ride off into the sunset.

I thought it was notable that the glazers were the ones photographed at meetings with Perez, Agnelli, Marotta, Henry. Not Woodward, but Joel and Avi.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Woodward saw the superleague had failed, knew the Glazers were either going to try again or sell up, and decided he'd had enough.

The problem is a lot of people have turned him into some sort of pantomime villain rather than the overpromoted accountant he is.

He's only sorry because he got caught shagging away from home. Not the for the actual plan.

Maybe? Who knows. It's clear the Glazers are the drivers of this at United and he's the front that takes all the abuse for them.

He could have stayed. No one else is leaving over it.

He was leaving at the end of the season anyway.

This is a PR stunt, like everything else that comes out of there.
