Maybe it would help if the bubble of protection that is afforded them by the media was removed, then even the most raggy of the rags would see their club for what they really are.
Because it seems to me that no matter how poorly they perform it is never highlighted in the press. The Sly and BT hangers-on club will adapt the old adage of 'never let the truth get in the way of a good story.' and tell us how the rags are one or two more signings from challenging the top four - something they have been telling us since the Chosen One took over.
They have not progressed in all that time, rather they have regressed, and some fans and media pundits can see it. But the rag-friendly media (Ratboy, Tyler, all the usual suspects) are queuing up to tell us about 'transitional periods,' 'turning corners,' and any other well-worn soundbyte their gullible lemmings love to hear.
The rags are currently a very, very poor side. Without pigmol and the rest they would probably be languishing just above the drop zone. Spent absolute billions on utter dross but have to rely on suspect refereeing to get them sufficient points to keep up with the likes of us and Chelsea. But would the tabloids mention any of this to the Neanderthals that actually read their papers? Of course not. Because in order to keep the money rolling in the tabloids have to paint a picture of a club in good health, a great team spirit, a first eleven that would die for one another...in short the complete antithesis of what they have really become.
