Went to Dubai a few years back and had to get a connecting flight in Frankfurt.
Rags were playing someone in the CL at the swamp that night.
Me and my lad boarded the flight at last call and every single person bar me and my lad were wearing rag shirts.
They would be half empty every game without the tourists.
1-6 at the swamp......my mate sat in scoreboard end at the game.
Said he was surrounded by hundreds of French school kids.
Told me there were easily 4-5 coach loads of them.....how they get tickets for a game like that?
As I've mentioned previously it's not really a stick that you can use to beat them with though... they've got so little else to crow about these days that they're actually proud of all the tourists and day trippers attending matches at OT and they're even proud of all their millions of 'supporters' who crowd around TV's throughout Africa and Asia.

Tourists get tickets for games like that because the tickets are part of a tour package.
For the last couple of decades Untied have sold thousands of £1 tickets to travel companies to facilitate thousands of actual tourists attending games.
Day 1; Land Heathrow and coach journey to the Cotswolds.
Day 2; tour of Cotswold villages and coach journey to Hotel in Cheshire.
Day 3; a day out at the theatre of hilarity, spend £150 in the club shop, £60 in mouse poo cafe, watch boring game of hoof ball then travel on to the Lake District.
Day 4; Windermere. . etc.

The tour companies get to make money on the almost free tickets and untied hold them to get the coaches in at least a couple of hours before the game so that the captured audience of tourists can all spend a fortune in the club shop and on overpriced dodgy snacks from the mouse poo cafeteria.
It helps untied keep the gate numbers inflated and they make more money off the one-off visits where tourists spend on souvenirs than they would if they had to discount their tickets to fill the gaps with their actual football supporters (who prefer to watch the games on TV and lie to each other about not being able to get a ticket).

It’s not always obvious on TV but sometimes it stands out like a sore thumb because they’ll have a whole section filled with people wearing turbans due to 6 coaches of Sikhs, or a whole section full of Chinese tourists etc.

Few small opinions:
  • United fans are pinning their hopes on Hannibal as the next big thing out of their Academy. They obviously have never watched him because he's wank.
  • They seem to have cleared out much of their dross which is good for them. But done it mid season leaving them without cover which is the stupidest shit possible.
  • Elanga will be playing for someone like Cagliari in 5 years time.
  • Martial (£58m), van de Beek (£45m), Pogba (£90m), Mata (£38m) all walk at the end of the season for little or nothing as well as Cavani and Lingard. Then next season potentially Matic, Ronaldo, Rashford, Shaw, de Gea, Ronaldo, Fred, Dalot and Jones all walk for free. That is spectacular mismanagement. It would have been cheaper and possibly a more successful endeavour for United to literally just take half a billion pounds in cash then set fire to it in the middle of the centre circle. Sure it would have been a waste too but maybe some homeless folks could have kept warm or something.
  • People seem to be working out that a Board member at a midtable Russian team who has won the same amount of career trophies as Alan Pardew might not be the saviour and inventor of German football. Who would have guessed?
  • Greenwood has saved Rashford's United career because Sancho was going to take that left sided spot off him eventually and he would have ended up at Wolves. Sancho now has to plug the gap on the right which gives Marcus a PSG away sized reprieve.
  • Varane going from playing next to Ramos to now playing next to Harry Maguire is the biggest climbdown since that bloke who fell off a mountain
  • They still won't finish 4th
Got to commend you on this particular one Damo - very much enjoyed it.............. :-)
