School and college level team performance can swing hugely as waves of players leave at the same time.
When I joined the UCH Sharks (Hull) in 1990 they had about 5 returning players.
Thanks to the huge influx of green 'talent' we went from 3 consecutive championships and a near miss the next year, to complete and utter gash.
Steep learning curve, but enjoyable.

No worries.
Our team and the one above were both unbeatable.
We usually only played grammar schools unless we had cup games.
Xavarian, thornleigh, Bollton, blackburn .Manchester grammar etc.
Can't remember Marple, I will dig out my Old Baeda.
We had training , coaching and went to games in a track suit so we must have been good-)
