There was also a limit on the amount of foreign players that could play around that time and English clubs would bleat that Scottish /Irish were deemed foreign under UEFA regs which caused some discussion of merging the SFA, WFA & NI FA with England and doing away with separate national teams to help teams in Europe.

Bottom line is that they may have had 5 locals but without checking I'd guess the usual starting line up for domestic games had less than that.
Well they did used to sing “ we’re Man Utd we do what we want”

If memory serves me correctly and this discussion has been raised a lot by uneducated rags, they only had 3 homegrown players, neville, butt, giggs, beckham was 16 when he joined their academy so maybe classed as homegrown making it 4.

If you want to see how homegrown they were, look at their lineup in the 99 CL final. Bayern started with 10 Germans and 3 foreigners in the squad in total. That was the norm back then. The rags had only five English players starting, so most of their best players were foreign long before the rest of Europe had caught up.
The 'Three Foreigners' rule was for teams playing in UEFA competitions. The rule was scrapped midway through the 1995-96 season (but voluntarily maintained by remaining clubs for the rest of their tournaments.)

I know that the 3 foreign player limit finished in 1996, which arguably explains why they were knocked out in qualifying in 1993 when they could only play Cantona, Keane and Schmeichel, and had to leave out Irwin and Kanchelskis (against Galatasaray, who were entirely Turkish). And again the next year, not having to qualify for the group stage this time, but then getting dicked 4-0 by Guardiola's Barcelona they had to play Walsh in goal so they could fit Irwin, Keane and Kanchelskis in. So basically, they were so reliant on foreigners domestically (relative to the time) that when it came to the CL with their stricter rules, they had to play backup players in a few positions. And it's arguably one of the main reasons that the likes of Scholes, Beckham and Neville even got a chance to be in the squad.

Yeah I know. But the point was that the rags were going well over the limit well before it was scrapped, whereas other teams maintained it well after, because they had enough of the 'homegrown talent' that the rags love to boast about. While the likes of Real and Inter also had a majority of overseas players in their starting eleven at times, the rags were absolutely amongst the most reliant on foreigners that season. Bayern and Juventus in particular were almost entirely made up of locals, as were Dynamo Kyiv, Panathinaikos, and Kaiserslautern (with Rosler), which makes a mockery of their 'we did it with homegrown players' bullshit. By the standards of the time, they were at the forefront of using overseas players (arguably outdone by Arsenal and Chelsea domestically, but not by much).

So let's get this straight.

Utd women turn down 2 world record bids in January from Arsenal for Alessia Russo who has 6 months left on her contract.

They then fail to negotiate a new contract with Russo who then leaves for Arsenal on a free.

Absolute fucking genius that from the Utd management.

Proper clown club in every single department

Interesting story in the BBC News this morning.

Apparently there are fears that Britain’s biggest water company Thames Water is in danger of collapse. It seems that in recent years the company has raised debt levels to somewhere in the region of £13billion. The report concluded that the Company’s operations have essentially been funded by debt whilst at the same time the shareholders have been helping themselves to excessive dividends.

Does this sound familiar?
