I actually think it's the opposite, Funnily enough the players always get rewarded with new contracts for having a good half of a season or a season.

Shaw. Dalot. Rashford. Martial. McTominay. Lindelof. Plus numerous more have all had new contacts whilst the manager gets the sack.
