I'm guessing he still does. He'll be 82 soon and he has nothing better to do than spend the final years of his life in that semi-derelict, squalid little hideaway called the swamp?
I don't think it's because his wife died recently, he spent most of his time there when she was alive anyway. No, I'm of the view that he can't let go: he has nothing else to live for except memories, and outside of the swamp he didn't appear to have a life so there are no memories of an existence before he took over, because it simply wasn't there.

It's a shallow life he leads now. Mentally shackled to a time some 40-odd years ago: his wife is gone, his best friend, 'the combover-king' is gone, the place where he once ruled with an iron fist is now a rundown, ramshackle squat and the club he once championed is now in its death-throes, battling to stay relevant as the rest of the world adapts to the 21st Century.

Fuck, even Ivan Denisovich had a life.

He did have a life outside it. Had the talk circuit in America - the business lot lapped up his 'leadership' stuff. However, to be fair to him all he knows is football. I'd suggest he couldn't be a pundit as they'd need subtitles due to him slurring his words more as he got older. So, the toilet is where he'd always be welcome. He looks a busy sort as well so I'd imagine his wife actually told him to get out of the fucking house!

Yep. Ratboy feeding the Goat was a good one as well. The Sick-Swan, 'Denis has done it,' and of course Kun's moment will go down in history, but that one really fucked up their heads - big-time.

The fact that they didn't care about winning but more about stopping us says everything.

Me and a mate stayed at the Lowry the weekend ratboy fed the goat. 3 things stick in my mind:

1. Before the match, sharing the lift down with John O'Shea and a couple of other members of their staff. As we got out my mate asked Mr O'Shea if he was planning a night out on Canal St after the game. Didn't go down very well (there were rumours at the time). Sorry to the PC brigade.

2. As we were residents their security couldn't stop us from loitering in reception, when their coach turned up we waited until the coach was about full. My mate again, full pelt, through the open door said "driver, start the bus, stick it in gear, accelerate, then drive these cunts straight into the fucking Irwell". Didn't go down very well.

3. The Lowry concierge managed to get us on the quest list for a club on Deansgate Locks, forget the name. We bumped into ratboy. The conversation went something like this:

"Gary"
No response.
"Gary"
Looks up, face on him.
"GARY"
"What?"
"Just wanted to thank you"
"What for?"

As I extended my hand, he hesitated, but grudgingly accepted. I squeezed hard and answered his question...

"feeding the goat".

Didn't go down very well.

We then drank up and left.
