There is absolutely no need for a so called Wembley of the North. For a start all the big games are contracted to be played at Wembley for a number of years yet. That's cup semi finals and finals, play off finals and England internationals. We have stadiums here already that can hold large crowds and host major events. Anfield, our ground and the soon to be completed Everton stadium are just three. In fact it would make more sense for the government to improve the transport infrastructure to our ground which would be much cheaper.

If they were to get funding from the government then EVERY other club in the so called "English Football Pyramid" need to make immediate requests for funding of developments to their grounds.

Wembley of the midlands, Wembley by the sea, Wembley on Tyne…….

I honestly think it’s calculated. It’s a threat that they’ll take the Rags away & Wembley would welcome them.

The irony of them moaning about our "council" house.
They were offered the 'Council House' first but declined, preferring to squeeze in yet more seats at The Swamp under the guise of their 'development plan'.

No 'Council House' and us, no 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. No Commonwealth Games in Manchester, no London Olympics in 2012. And no development of East Manchester by City and The Sheikh. It's as simple as that.

They and the rest of the tribal moaners around the country can get to f**k!!

FFP is the issue for Uncle Jimmy.

He won't be putting any of his hard earned into the rags just like the Glaizers, but just like them he has their huge debts hovering , a team is need of a huge rebuild, a crap manager to be paid off and a dilapidated stadium/training ground to be renovated or replaced.

In fact Uncle Jimmy could be in for the perfect storm, popcorn at the ready.

People queueing for hours outside a newly opened dentist cos no one can get in one any more. Long waiting times in a&e. Councils having to increase tax by 10% cos they've got no money. Food banks and energy poverty.
Ye let's give a private entity owned by billionaires, billions of pounds for a vanity project.
Get to fuck.

Scruffy Jim has played the (compliant) media and us, brilliantly.
He has kept a failing club in the limelight, everyone is talking about them as though they were still a big club.

I don’t think they did decline. Ferguson was shouting about having the stadium built from the roof tops.
And then City said we get first dibs.

I think it is going to be very hard for them to get Govt funding and probably shows where they are…

There is no precedent for this kind of thing and helping out American billionaires, Monaco residents and companies who pay footballers hundreds of thousands pounds a week is not going to go down well.

People can point to West Ham/ City to lesser of an extent. But these clubs have helped out regardless of good deal etc.

When you host these big things there are numerous examples of stadiums then being left to rot, some of the reason why Qatar did temporary ones.

They have legacy teams and getting the athletics stadium to maintain and be useful is pretty much top of the list.

Then you have how annoyed we would be, but Tottenham worse, Arsenal, Chelsea would be very interested and expect to be next.

The only thing in memory would be the Real Madrid training ground, but it’s clutching straws TBH and probably a good example why a Government should not do anything to help in that way.

I unfortunately will never be surprised by things Govt do, but this I would be very, very close.

It’s a huge own goal (pardon the pun).
I would imagine current PL whipping boys Everton would have liked a shot at building the 'Wembley of the North'....might have saved 'em a few problems.
