OrI'm in the pub. I'll answer you and @Gordyola later.

But my reply will be on the lines of Lancashire didn't allow Liverpool and Manchester in. :-)
Ok.
I'm back from the pub.
I have thought about my answer to @Mad Eyed Screamer and @Gordyola
I realise that it is a complex argument, one that needs to be thought through and considered before a reply is made.
I have indeed considered and thought my response through and it's still fuck off.

And this children, is why you should never believe the internet.
Manchester and Salford had their own town halls, local government and indeed police forces (until they were amalgamated)
This charade above even has Liverpool in Lancashire. As a proud Lancastrian we would not have allowed such a thing.
Liverpool is Lancashire, traditionally.

seen plenty of Everton and Liverpool hats and bags when I’ve followed Lancs CC too.

I disagree. In the12th century some rich nobleman and the king carved up the country and yes, then the Earl of Lancaster owned Liverpool and Manchester but then they were just minor areas for a rich nobleman to control.
Come the industrial revolution, Salford, Manchester and Liverpool were city's in their own right.

Manchester became a City in 1853 totally independent of Lancashire.

Anyway, the point was, at no point in their entire history were Lancashire Yoonitid ever part of Manchester

It’s not an opinion to disagree with, it’s a fact, Liverpool and Manchester were officially part of Lancashire until 1974.
Key dates
  • Manchester: Part of Lancashire from at least 1182 (when Lancashire became an established county) until 1974 → about 792 years total
  • Liverpool: Founded in 1207 and part of Lancashire until 1974 → about 767 years total
  • Both cities together in Lancashire: 1207 to 1974 = 767 years

So why did Manchester (and Salford) have their own police force?
Salford had there own police force since 1844
Manchester was two years earlier, in 1842. They were not part of Lancashires governance from those dates and in 1853 Manchester was declared a City. Lancashire played no part in anything to do with Manchester after that.
1974 merely removed Stretford, Old Trafford and other areas from Lancashire. They did not remove Manchester, they couldn't, they were already separate.

Because the population of Manchester exploded during the 19th century, when it became the global power for industry. Lancashires governance, I am guessing, couldn’t effectively police it, so they created a localised new force, that could deal with a city that northern England had never experienced before?

When did what police force you have determine what county you’re in? Sounds like the tail wagging the dog mate.

I merely mentioned the police force to show who was running that area. I could have said schools/education authority or similar, ie. fire brigade, bin collection.
Lancashire local government stopped running Manchester in 1853 and the border of Old Trafford/Manchester was created.

Manchester had a separate FA from the 1800s to Lancashire n’all.

But Manchester was part of Lancashire until 1974.

The historical border of Lancashire was always the River Mersey. That goes back to before Lancashire existed where it was also the border of Cheshire and the old county of Inter Ripam et Mersam, which meant between the Ribble and Mersey.

All I know is I grew up in Urmston, Lancashire. Manchester was totally separate.
With that I'll leave it there.
