university offers

Law at MMU - if you can get the llb you should do it. It leaves you with more options, and after graduating what you want is options.

Go for whatever will stand for you best, i would pick law as its more general and basically leaves your options open to anything from company law to employment law if it goes tits up but go for criminology at the best uni possible if your certain.

Make sure you try and get a year intern or something too after a couple of years, will put you in a really good standing for the future, shows you have a passion for it.

Well im currently a mentor for young offenders and a couple of hours a week at strangeways. (both voluntary). I know its the criminal side i want to go into so criminology should stand out but having read the mmu prospectus on lae, it covers a wide variety on criminal aspects of law so this seems to be the best option thanks for the replies. I might also ring companies up where i might want to work once graduated and just see what their looking for.

Pretty jealous of you mate. Always regretted not doing a BA in Criminology or a related field.

Sounds like you're ahead of most students already in terms of gaining work experience. In terms of impressing potential employers, I think there's nothing more they'll like to hear than you interacting with prisoners - as opposed to doing something more administrative. You'll get the chance to absorb as much theory as you want during the course, so getting to know real people and building a mental portfolio of real case studies will be invaluable later.

I'd love to have taken criminology, but decided to do something else for the experience and I thought that I would gain more later on. But I still regret not trying my hand at it as I might have been quite good. Law can be extremely difficult to get into and it's often about who you know not what, personally I was only ever interested in the criminal side of law as well so good luck whatever you choose.
