I wrote a post similar to this about a year ago but would like to write again on it.

...and sorry if it looks like a novel.

Everyone experiences growing pains. I want to applaud city this year. A year ago on this day we were in a much different place. I cringe even thinking about it. And out of nowhere we were thrust into a position that honestly, none of us saw coming, at least at the pace it did. Going from struggling to here a mention of your name, to being linked to every player under the sun in a matter of days. It's just been a crazy time and this is really only the beginning. I am sure it wasn't easy for a lot of the players but i applaud them for the way they handled it.

I don't often comment on Bluemoon but I am here everyday enjoying the banter, transfer speculation, and jokes at the expense of the scum. Recently i have seen a couple posts about the fact that City whether we like it or not is going to grow globally. That are some of the goals of expressed by GC and ADUG. And with that there are going to be people who support them b/c they are the anti-manure, or looking for the club with the most money. (I will say at the end of the day a jersey sale is still a jersey sale, so i'll gladly take the money for our club!) But here is my problem.....

I grew up watching MCFC but not like you think. I never got to go to Maine Road, COMS, nor even manchester. And sadly, the UK only once. I am from a small town called Abilene. Texas. I played soccer my whole life all they way through college and I belong to the small majority over here who are passionate about it. How city? At my dads work he used to record football games for me. For some reason i just fell in love with City. I have been following City for about 8 or 9 years now. I am 25 now. As technology continued to grow I could slowly start to follow the blues closer and closer. I Buy my kit every year and currently pay a stupid amount of money to get games over here on my TV. (and most streams don't work over here) I have been a blue through the keegan years, pierce, sven, MH, to present. There has been no club in the sporting world that has come dearer to my heart than City. All i can do right now in my life is hope that i am successful enough financially :P that trips to Manchester can become reality! (Lets not draw the parallel to Rag fans flying in lol) I promise my support for City is genuine.

My question for bluemooners. In a few years (or less) when trophies are coming in, and people around the world are shedding there menstruation red for the beautiful sky blue, how do I, set myself apart for all those glory hunting plastics that know nothing about who MCFC truly is. Yes i have had beer thrown at me as well almost coming to blows with so-called United fans over here in the states. I just ask them to name me the other 19 teams in the premiership (they usually get through about 11 lol. When i have the money to come over and stay for a while i have a fear of being seen as someone jumping on the bandwagon! So what I am getting at is that I will try and make some sort of a name for myself on here or something so i can be recognized by at least somebody! Ill buy pints for the man that steps up and lets me sleep on his couch!!!!!! Bluemoon is really the only place to have to go to get close to MCFC fans. Thanks for all the good times this year and after all this time .....

is jo still cup tied?

P.S. Im not sure how this could work but I would like to get my kit in a fun way this year. If there is anyone out there who would like to go to the City Store and buy my shirt (with Zab's name on the back of course!) while taking pictures of the whole process I will send the money before hand and maybe a little extra for a pint or something! I would then post pictures of me getting it/opening the box.

Nice post Blue... (Rag, lol) No only joking. I remember you posting tbh.
I would say that you should just keep posting on here and I wouldnt worry about people thinking your a glory hunter because we will get them as you mention. And I think I mentioned this last time, your welcome to come over and stay at mine for a few days and I have two season tickets so I'll even let you have one for one of the games. But as you say, you'll be buying the pints and the curry after.
PM if you wanna come over.

Great post mate and I can understand how you feel about being classed as a glory hunter as I'm sure success will bring a fair few sniffing around, but let me set you at ease as you've already admitted to being a blue on here today and today we have NO recent cups or league titles to shout about....That makes you a blue.

I'm lucky, I live not more than 15 miles away from my beloved and that allows me to go all the time, which in away is easier than someone who can't make it as it helps to re-establish the bonds that get tried and tested when you support a team like City and it's rollercoaster style.

Welcome aboard.

Great post mate.
Just like you I am an unlikely blue- from central western NSW in Australia, I have no natural ties at all to football or to City. But something turned me into a blue several years ago (i don't know what), and I've seen some awful football so far, but some great stuff as well. (I go back a bit further then you, back to the early part of Joe Royle's reign!). Like you though, they have grown very close to my heart, and will forever be a part of me.

I know just what it is like to fight the Red tide of plastic rags and to just be seen as 'strange' by those around you. It doesn't matter what other people think- I know you are a true blue, and you know in your heart you are a true blue. When the success does come, we can say that we have been there before the great times had come to city (Though we have been through only a part of the agony that those blues lucky enough to live in the UK have been through over the last 30 years). We have blue blood running in our veins (Goodness knows how it got there) and you should be proud of that. Keep standing up to those plastic rags and spread the word of MCFC. Of course we will get plastic fans, but the true fans will always be the core of this very special club, and no matter what anybody says you are one of them.

Luckily, this season I have managed to turn my dreams into reality and I have managed to get to several games since January. I've met some fantastic blues over here, and your fear of being seen as a 'glory hunter' is completely without need. Every blue I have met has greeted me with a big smile, had a laugh and a chat. I've heard fantastic stories of the old days and the great blues of past times, of the good times and the bad.Manchester is a terrific place and the club is something special. The fans are what makes it though, and they will soon realise that you aren't a plastic fan at all, and you'll be treated like a long lost friend. I know that is how I have felt in my time over here.

I'm very sad today as it was my last game for this trip, but I'm excited sitting here thinking about my next trip.

I have one piece of advice for you- Do whatever you have to do and save the money to come across. Drink 1 less beer every time you go to the pub and put the cash in a jar, don't eat for a month, rob a back (Maybe don't go that far)-just do whatever it takes to get over here- believe me you won't regret it.

Its exciting when your at home watching city, but the first time you spot the stadium (Walking from Piccadilly station for me, but possibly on the train from the airport if you fly into Manchester), the first time you walk into the stadium and the crowd roars as the team comes on, The first City goal you see live (Zabaleta vs Wigan for me), the first victory, the first away game etc etc is just so special and will live with you forever. I know I will never forget it, and it has been very special for me this last few months!!

CTID.

You shouldnt feel the need to distinguish yourself. I remember being asked at the bus stop outside the stadium why I decided to support this shower of shite when they heard my accent as I was talking to a mate, and every time I'm having a smoke outside a pub I get rags or other city fans asking me why I support City and not United.

Do I care? Nope, proud blue, even if we were relegated today and not Newcastle. The only person who needs to know that is yourself, no one else, most randomers you meet won't remember you the next day and you'll probably see none of them for the rest of your life. Who gives a flying fook.

We WILL get plastic fans, I don't care about them, I (and you) were here when we were still shite, premier league team yes, but still shite.

I'm in a similar boat as you Unlikely, myself I come from Chicago and my father spent some time at the University of Manchester(Victoria) and while he was there became a Blue, and has raised me as a blue. I have my kits and scarves and follow religiously, and I get my sanity questioned why I'd choose City when the big four are much more popular. My dream is to make it to Manchester and watch City, but my biggest fear is to be questioned, rejected, as an important part of City's culture is being from Manchester while obviously, I am not.
