I want to upgrade my computer with a new graphics card and power supply since the ones I have aren't very good.

Does anyone have any suggestions for graphics cards? I have about $500 CAD so around 250 pounds to spend on this. So if you could keep it within that price range.

I don't know much about graphics cards so if someone could actually help me understand what I should be looking for in one that would be great too.

Are you comfortable with upgrading parts inside your computer? £250 is a decent ammount to spend on a card, I built a fairly decent computer from scratch for just under £500 last year and it still plays all current generation games with the highest quality.

An ATI HD 5 series card with about 1gb ram is a really good card to go for, they're fairly well priced aswell.

Don't go blowing silly money on a PSU, they all do the same job, by a bog standard 600/700W what and your jammin

If you've got any money left over, you might wanna buy some RAM aswell.

My computer is fairly good, the only real issues I have with it is the graphics card. I have 6 gb of ram so I am pretty sure I am fine for now at least. I want to play a couple high end graphics games, such as Elder Scrolls V when it comes out so I am looking for a card in my price range that might be able to play that on a fairly decent standard of graphics.

Hope this link helps , all available graphics cards ranked

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/best-graphics-card-game-performance-radeon-hd-6670,review-32183-7.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/best-grap ... 183-7.html</a>

Try some where like scan or overclockers to get prices , use the chart on the link above to judge value for money . As for the psu I'm afraid I have to disagree with the previious post not all power supplies are the same , a high end graphics card not only needs a certain amount of watts , it also requires a high ampage on the 12 volt rail otherwise your going to be looking at blue screens when you really ramp the settings up .

For about 250 you could get an Nvidia GTX 560 Ti or the amd alternatives would be HD 5850, 6870 personally Id go for the fastest 560 ti you can afford and pair it with a psu like this maybe

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w-corsair-enthusiast-650txv2uk-tx-v2-series-85-eff-sli-eps-12v-80-plus-bronze-140mm-fan" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w-cor ... -140mm-fan</a>

But without knowing the rest of your components cpu ram mobo its hard to give you specific recomends .

Agreed, sound advice, thats what I would go for.

My important advices if youre buying ATI Graphics Cards:

#1 - Go for XFX. Info at <a class="postlink" href="http://www.xfxforce.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.xfxforce.com</a>

#2 - Go for an Artic Cooler. Compt. with most everyone ATI Card. Default ATI Cooler is pretty loud. This will improve the Perfomance, improve Overclocking and bring at least 15C less Temp.

#3 - Look at Bits (128/192/256/..) An older Card with more Bits is better. Ppl go over newest is best, but it aint true. You will find this info at the detailed View.

Always believed Nvidia cards are better for gaming than
ATI, but I could be wrong.
Make sure you check dimensions of a new graphics
card and that it will fit into your case.
This card looks like the dogs dangly bits
for the price:

Really could with your pc specs as it is now.
