City bosses have risked the wrath of their United rivals – by launching an exhibition 'welcoming' Champions League football to Manchester.
The exhibition marks City's first ever appearance in the competition, in which United have been regulars for the last 20 years, when Italian club Napoli come to town tonight.
It is centred around a display to 'showcase' Manchester and will greet Uefa delegates on their arrival at the Etihad stadium.
But there are fears it could stoke up tensions between the two bitter foes following the infamous Carlos Tevez billboard row – as the exhibition appears to suggest it is the first time the Champions League has come to Manchester.
It includes several iconic pieces to showcase the history and culture of Manchester including the Stone Roses, Coronation Street and Boddingtons Beer, which will already be familiar to UEFA delegates who have visited Old Trafford over the years. There is also an I Love Manchester T-shirt on display at the exhibition.
The Blues first upset United in 2009 when they commissioned the 'Welcome to Manchester' advert on Deansgate after they signed ex-United star Carlos Tevez.
The headline-grabbing stunt, a cheeky dig at the fact that the Reds' ground lies just outside the boundaries of the borough of Manchester, provoked rage within Old Trafford and was said to have left manager Sir Alex Ferguson furious.
Now Blues bosses have brought in items celebrating the Manchester's heritage including the last brick from the legendary Hacienda nightclub, original album sleeves from music icons The Smiths and The Stone Roses and a Coronation Street script and Rovers Return beer mat for their exhibition.
There will even be a can of Boddington's bitter at the display alongside a host of artefacts from City's history which will be held in the re-branded Champions Club executive suite.
Officials say the exhibition is in response to Uefa guidelines which state that host clubs must 'capture the local culture'.
And no expense has been spared in bringing 27 artefacts to give Uefa officials an authentic taste of the city.
A Blues spokesmen said the club wanted to 'showcase' Manchester.
He added: “Tonight is not only a great opportunity to welcome Uefa delegates to the club, but also showcase and celebrate the things that make Manchester and Manchester City what we are.
“The people, the music, the football.”
City are also laying out the red carpet for fans of the opposition.
Giant signs featuring the Italian word 'Benvenuti', meaning 'Welcome', have been added above stadium entrances ahead of the match.
