I think you will find it is quite important in South America.
Very much so , a real feather in their cap to beat the european champions , just dont understand all the bullshit games , qaurter final / semi final , it always ends up as the South Americans verus the Europeans , its just another way for FIFA to milk money , hence the 32 team tournament starting soon

There were a few years teams from AFC and CAF got to the final instead of the South American winners. It's always been a European team in the final though regardless of the opposition.

In 2010 Inter beat a team from Africa, 2013 Bayern beat Raja Casablanca (who played in it as the domestic league winner of the host nation) and in 2022 Real beat a team from one of the Gulf States.

I also think in 2020 Bayern beat UNAL of Mexico in the final?.

It always ends up that way does it? Who did Real Madrid play in the last final?

It didn’t end up that way last season. Al-Hilal beat Copa Libertadores winners Flamengo in the SF before losing to Real in the final.
Real's two games in the tournament were both against Saudi opposition.

About half the time the South American team doesn’t make the final

I'm really looking forward to this. I'm ready for a change and a break from what is a cesspit of a Premier League
