A perfect demonstration of why hypothetical polling of candidates before they actually become candidates is pretty much a waste of time.

When a pollster asks “If X were the Democratic candidate, would you vote for them or Trump?” that is a different question to “Are you voting X or Trump?” The couching of the question in uncertainty changes the psychology of the respondent.
 

We finally know why Phil got this tattoo — we all comment that he always looks three or four steps ahead of the opposition, but I had no idea he had this sort of foresight!
