Tim Scott is 50x more likely to become POTUS than Pence (Tim Scott has zero chance to become POTUS)
Agree - Republican presidential candidates are mostly claiming that they'll pardon The Donald if they're elected President. And yes, it surprised me that Tim Scott said exactly this (losing my respect for him in the process).

Chris Christie - another no-way-in-hell-he'll-be-elected candidate - seems to be the only (can't think of anyone else doing so) candidate calling Trump out.

I think the biggest question is if there is any level of evidence or information (admission by him or his cronies, first hand account, or other discoveries) that would persuade Trump’s base that he is not someone that should be president again.

Up until the last few weeks, almost nothing has done that. Luckily, there were more people in 2020 that knew what he was than didn’t, but I am not sure the numbers of his supporters have really decreased much in the last 3 years, despite the mounting evidence of corruption, malfeasance, and now outright treason, even to the self-proclaimed “most patriotic party”. And Republican gerrymandering (including states literally ignoring Supreme Court rulings to ensure their illegal electoral dominance like Alabama) and election-rigging has only intensified ahead of next year.

I am not optimistic about what is to come over the next 14 months or so. But I certainly hope I am wrong about possible violence and illegal election interference.
If it looks like Trump is even close to grabbing the nomination, what’s left of the GOP will put all their eggs (read: money, time, effort and media exposure) into elevating their choice.

Unlike you SB, I think his numbers have VASTLY declined, with the “Why not?” voter having been given multiple reasons why not and also seeing for themselves what a NPD he is.

While he might look good in a head to head between himself and A.N. Other today, if it comes down to ACTUALLY Trump or A.N. Other, I think the latter wind the nomination.

Conservatives, and most Republicans, aren’t stupid and they hate losing. For those two reasons alone, Trump loses the nomination.

Look for Haley to start improving in the polls, as she merely noted that Trump was yesterdays hero and tomorrow needs a new one…her! However, what we REALLY need to keep an eye on is who is raising the most money!! Show me the deep pockets and I’ll show you the nominee!!

The problem with this analysis is that it assumes that there's some sort of meaningful difference between the GOP and MAGA - there is none. Trump's the nominee unless he suffers some sort of medical emergency between now and the nomination.

I just can’t see it happening AGAIN! Too many disillusioned conservatives and they see Trump already got beat against Biden.

I think we, and they, will see a younger, more vibrant conservative as a better standard bearer and a much clearer contrast in choice against a clearly diminished/diminishing Biden.

For the love of God I hope Biden has to drop out and Newsom can step in. The call for new blood is sorely needed, and to think that Harris is merely a lack of a heartbeat away from such power is getting scarier by the day.

I was an early fan of hers, as a black woman with a law and order background, but after watching and hearing her for the last 6 years, one wonders how on earth she rose to the heights she has achieved.

Many have said “on her knees in front of Willie Brown,” but I don’t know anything about that!

I love the job Biden's doing. I do wish he were younger - but so far age isn't impacting his ability to lead.

As far as the GOP (read MAGA) party - you need look no further than Fox News to gauge where the party is at. Fox News hosts are all-in behind Trump because that's what their core audience wants to hear. Sure some (most?) of the mega donors don't want Trump, but that's not going to make a whit of difference. Trump is way ahead of all other Republican candidates and it's going to remain this way baring force majeure.

Can anyone honestly see this whole saga being finally resolved in the next 2 years?

Even if there is a speedy trial for the latest indictment and Trump s found guilty, it will result in appeal after appeal, right up the the SC, and it could easily drag on 4 years.

The court needs to make this trial public so that the evidence can be laid out for all to see. Hopefully it will be enough to convince all but the dumbest idiots that he is guilty as charged so that they will stop propping up his failing businesses and funding his legal battles through the Stop the Steal Super-PAC (or whatever fundraising mechanism he's using to con his supporters from their hard earned cash they can ill afford to lose).

The share of republicans and independents that believe Trump has done nothing wrong has been dropping over the last few weeks according to CBS and Marist polls…

But I am still hesitant to believe this will do anything but further entrench his base in the belief that their messiah is being politically persecuted.

We can live in hope, though. There’s not much else that can be done at this point.
The base is getting smaller though.
