Sounds to me the exact same tactic as is happening just up the road from me in the Coolock protests. It's not really about pets though. That's just a side issue. The real issues are numerous and continuously ignored.
1. A small town of 50 thousand has a foreign population of close to 20000 inserted into their community with little regards for the effects. If such an influx.
2. The social services in the small town has reached a breaking point.
3. The difference in the culture of the natives and the new migrants are causing massive social aches.
4. Spikes in homelessness and encampments springing up around town as landlords triple their rent and stop renewing rental leases so they could get in on the windfall of renting bunke weekly to Haitians who they can't pack 15 to 20 per house and charging by bed.
5. There have been complaints at board meetings as to why the city isn't enforcing its rental housing codes.
6. There has been a well documented spoke in car accidents in the town. Specifically related to migrants. And a general refusal by the force to tow cars of migrants who have been caught driving without a license.
7. There is a specific agency dedicated to Haitian employment (and according to some residents - I'm sure some will call them butter and lazy - there is preferential treatment given to migrant employment.
Then there is the culture clash stuff that comes with the territory. Haitian men deemed a little more aggressive with women than many are used to or comfortable with. Language barriers that make it impossible to negotiate or communicate with some of them.
Overall, the impression you get is there are government officials and businesses taking advantage of the Migrants themselves, the town of Springfield and it's citizens themselves and no one gives a fuck... God forbid you object to any of this, you'd be called a racist off the bat.
There is this ideological belief that any opposition to migrants at any level simply must come from a place of bigotry and racism. Its nonsense! Most of the citizens are accommodating within reason, but there is only so much top down engineering a town can take.
For the record, Springfield is just one of many cities where immigration has left an unenjoyable taste.
In Chicago it's the black residents who are the racists. In California, same. Black folks are up in arms. You have money for migrants but not for our reparations? Say it ain't so Mister Guv'nor.
In Colorado it's the Hispanics who are the bigots. In New York it's the African Americans and the Hispanic complaining about drained by resources. Bloody bigots.
Bigots everywhere of all shade and color. When would the self delusions stop?
It gets me every time I hear this argument no matter what part of the world it’s in.
It’s far simpler manipulate people into protest by creating a cause that’s not there, than actually addressing the problems which you most likely describe accurately in so far as there are several parts of existing society taking advantage of, or manipulating a system that is driven by demand.
Supply and demand being what brings migrants in, in the first place.
The fact that they are also exploited is usually ignored.
Make all of your targeted audiences problems be as a result of the foreigner.
There’s several scams going on but none bigger than the one Trump is pulling on his audience, who he quite honestly couldn’t give a fvck about as long as they vote him in.
