US Politics Thread

He's saying nothing new, but the champagne socialists on here think he's wrong or think his ideas are 'crazy'.

Reflective of how the US politician (and UK to be fair) have gaslighted the citizen into voting against their own interests.
Would he be running for the next Presidential election?

No he’s saying nothing new there and there is nothing to disagree with. A shame you discourage discussion by throwing out insults at the so called “champagne socialists”, a lazy cliché if ever there was one.

You’re right that the electorate constantly vote against their own interests. Maybe it’s them you should be targeting.

Out of interest, are you politically active? Do you for example campaign on the doorsteps of potential voters or work within a particular party to push a more radical agenda?

I don't 'discourage discussion'. Those people, who know who they are did that, years ago, by dismissing what Sanders was saying, echoing the false narrative the MSM spouted, making them complicit in the groupthink that places working class families needs at the bottom of the pile.

It's always big business first, who exploit those at the bottom for billions through subsidies and profit.

In layman's terms, they are given tax money to develop their medicines/ business, whack up prices and gain the profit from it. A double whammy for the bottom feeder that we are.

The 'champagne socialists' don't care and gaslight desperate people in voting away what's right for them.

And yes, before the pandemic, I was being courted by a couple parties to join them, one mainstream, one 'radical'. My life has gone a different direction at the moment, but once it's settled, I'll probably pick up my lost Brother's torch with his political agenda.

We'll see as I have a lot to do with other things, first.

I won't be rising to anyone's bait with what I've just said, either.

Sanders isn't as "far left" the US make out.Show how right wing leaning it is.

In Europe he's more in the Norwegian social democratic mould.

That country doesn't do too bad with that model does it?

You can't get through to them, Mat.

I can't recall anybody notable, born on the US side of this forum, that championed the fight against the healthcare system. Maybe there was one, I just can't recall them.

To me, that speaks volumes about the tax bracket they're in and the 'I'm alright, Jack' position they're in where the current system 'is better than nothing'.

Incrementalist moves that are too little, too late as these exploitative companies rack up billions and pay little in tax in the meantime, while we carry the weight.

It's a joke.

I always defend the NH, especially in conversations here in the US.

I refer to it as the White Elephant in the room, maybe it’s because I’m so handsome and well spoken but few have much of a come back to me

Depends how much you like tax and how much you want to pay for a beer. But anything is better than the shit show in the US where they manage to pay higher taxes than in the U.K. but are also always a cancer diagnosis away from bankruptcy.

Perhaps you are handsome. I think I can see it through your handsome words?

Aren't you sick of the whole shit? How do you feel about the citizen told 'how do we afford it?' and then the next minute you're finding out there are trillions handed out every year to different businesses?

I'm beyond pissed when I know what happens here, so how do you deal with it in the US? Or is it something you don't think about until it affects you or someone you know?

Genuine question.

Luckily I’m in good health and not on any regular medication. I’ve had a couple of hospital visits in the last thirty plus years and the service was better than I could have imagined and my insurance covered nearly all.

I do have concerns about the future and I’ll see if I remain here in my mid 60’s

I do get pissed off at the complete and utter ignorance of people who Trump on about socialism bad, Merca great. Some are wealthy but most are just lemmings voting against their own well being. The Force is strong with these idiots. I regularly see the community come together and set up benefits for people inundated with medical costs, something I’ve not seen anywhere else, I’ve also seen medical institutions forgive some huge personal debt.
Then there are places like the Huntsman Cancer Center in Salt Lake City that is funded 100% on wealthy donations, all patients are treated for free.
It’s not Black and White but I definitely advocate for some kind of social medical system in this country
