IMO, a very similar thing happened under George W. Bush's reign - Bush was of the belief that Iraq was developing weapons of mass destruction which might be used against the USA - any intelligence to the contrary was suppressed and likely never made it to the attention of the president.

Biden seems to have been victim to faulty intelligence - but that such poor intelligence might occur should have been a lesson learned - and Biden bears responsibility. A much more measured withdrawal involving a large US military presence was in hindsight necessary - and might have been put into place should the administration have been more open to critical assessments about the state of the Afghan army.

There is some truth in that but ignores the fact that the withdrawal started under Trump and the release of Taliban leaders happened under Trump.

It would have been a terrible decision to try to push back against the Taliban from the position he inherited. That was the only other option, go out and basicaslly confront the enemy again, it was never going to happen.

I do wonder who had influence on the decision to release Taliban leaders. The only people who would benefit from that are Russian.

Trump reached an agrrement with the Taliban without bothering to invite any representatives of the legitimate Afghan government to the talks. He set the timestable for withdrawal as 31 August 2021 and agreed to and facilitated the release of 5,000 Taliban terrorist from jails in Pakistan. He simply caved in to the Taliban's demands.
