US Politics Thread

If the GQP retakes power in two years the western-world will be in more peril than it has ever been. Hitler had the Axis but Putin would have the full compliance of the US. We already have GQP members of congress calling for us to stop supporting Ukraine while some of their operatives are outwardly speaking out in favor of Russia to cheering crowds around the country. He already threatened to pull us out of NATO and lots of so-called "normal" republicans were on board.

I believe if even if we just adopted isolationist policies Europe would be in danger but I have to assume we'd actually support the Russians if they further their ambitions and keep expanding westward. You have to remember that the former guy got a lot of criticism from NATO allies whereas Putin says nice things about him and we've seen time and again how he makes decisions solely based on who is nice to him and who isn't. Any GQPer I talk to believes Ukraine is the most corrupt country in the world and is totally responsible for the war. As far as China goes he has the same admiration for Xi that he does Putin, he's praised them both on multiple occasions for "ruling their with an iron fist." He even praised the guy he endorsed in the Pennsylvania governor's race by saying he'd govern my state with an iron fist.

It’s very much a worry and if they went down that road then their place in Western society wouldn’t only be in question, it would be shot.

A Trump 2nd term would be a total disaster for America. Its clear he has some terrible people around him however I get the sense this has only become worse, his first term had a lot of people pulling him back from the brink. One book I read on it described a kind of ying and yang with Bannon the defacto head of the extreme right and Kushner / Ivanka pushing a more traditional approach. Although there version of traditional also involved maximizing grift and profiteering. Ultimately the Kushner model won out and Bannon was fired.

But following the election loss and in the lead up to Jan 6th all the rationale voices gave up with him. The people in his ear now are the worst of the worst, hence such bad decision making. That makes it very unlikely he can win an election. Bankruptcy a more likely outcome. But if he did win from here then agree he would be far more extreme.

Feckin’ hell, we think our government are dodgy shysters.

Imagine if your neighbor murdered your family and the cops say they don’t have enough resources to arrest him. It’s funny how the ones who say the feel the most persecuted have the system behind their backs.

That’s why the GOP is so cross about the 80,000 new IRS agents(who by the way will be primarily replacing ones retiring)cause they know powerful people like Trump get off scott free when they underfund it.

I'm pretty sure the 80k new IRS agents figure is bullshit. That's just more GQP hyperbole intended to scare to stupid. Even if it weren't true there's no way anybody hires 80k expensive CPAs to audit waitresses (like they said they'd do) in order to get another $150 in tax revenue.

Yea the 80k is hyperbole that’s why I said they will primarily replace outgoing ones which means the net gain is much lower. But as you said, the IRS doesn’t need that many CPAs let alone a hundred to audit a waitress let alone some gig worker using apps like CashApp or Zelle.

Trump's ethics attorney (oh the irony) pressured Cassidy Hutchinson to lie under oath. Thankfully she fucked him off.
