US Politics Thread

I liked that, not because I think it's going to happen but because it's something different. Well done.
I said the same when our neighbour popped over for a drink at lunch and he stood on the table and took a shit. I applauded him for his originality as the vast majority of our lunch time guests do not usually do that. It was something different.

I know, it’s pretty obvious to everyone, I hope it’s the left kicking off, looks like it’s going to be that way.

FWIW I think Trump will win and be a disaster, but also think it’s a no win situation. I think he’s going to isolate the US economically, and I foresee a lack of intervention in foreign tensions (outside of Israel) causing a lot more drama (and I think he’ll be right in doing so).

He’ll withdraw support for Ukraine, and negotiate a peace deal where everything bar Crimea is handed back, under the conditions of NATO being disbanded and Ukraine joining the EU, probably with some sort of Russian peace keepers in the Donbas.

BRICs membership will continue to grow and US government spending will be halved; these will offset each other as far as the dollar is concerned with it slightly weakening.

I think this will be better for the US, because it’s such a big country and so self sufficient I think it’ll strengthen internally but become a much smaller player internationally, with China taking up the difference, who, I believe, will be a much more responsible power.
Hang on, you actually think he'll be able to force NATO to disband?

Good god.

9/5 at one stage but only about £50 at that. Most are around 6/4 and a couple at evens from ages ago. Now in for just under a grand. Wish I’d signed up to Polymarket when they had her at 35% chance but didn’t want to give Thiel any of my money.
I got burnt with 50p on Biden so didn't go back. But does seem a clear attempt to influence the market.

You'd only have to look at his address to congress a few months ago to see that Netanyahu has significant support amongst Republicans in congress. It was standing ovation after standing ovation, most Democrats boycotted the address.

I maintained it was always bollocks at any rate but interesting to see the pump and dump has been pumped and dumped.

I'd read that a single bettor had placed large bets on Trump and that this moved the odds.

When the odds were so high in favor of Trump I wondered if there was free money to be made given certain assumptions. Namely that the price of Truth Social (i.e., of the Trump Media and Technology Group stock) was strongly linked to the election outcome. Might it have been possible to bet that Harris won the election while simultaneously hedging by buying futures in TMTG? Given enough disparity between TMTG stock price and betting markets... well, one wonders.

Wish I'd took 1/2 on the Popular Vote odds 3 days ago. It's now 1/4.

Seems there's nothing in it now between the pair of them. I've managed to get some on this bet, Which doesn't look bad. That 5/1 has gone now.

Regular if isolated outbreaks of violence continue to occur. A guy in court yesterday was charged with wielding a machete in an attempt to intimidate Democratic voters. Third world stuff. A warning of what might happen when Trump loses?

If you bet on Harris to win, but also the double of Trump to win but with Harris winning the popular vote that will cover the bet.

There are reports of how effective the Democratic effort on the ground is. Tens of thousands of doors have been knocked on and the Democratic vote is coming out to play.
Moreover there is poll evidence that late deciders are heavily favouring Harris. Trump is indeed talking himself to defeat.
Keep it up. Vote Blue.
